I receive Social Security from the US and My Union pension, if I surrendered my American passport , the first could go away, and the second would be difficult.
Also if the shit was to hit the fan ,I think I will stick with those who have my back, and have the biggest guns.
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

Don't you have to, by law, renounce your other nationality?

If you're talking to me, no, unless you are Indian, Chinese, and a few others. UK, US, OZ, no.

    Yup.

I know that you're allowed dual/multiple citizenship as an Aussie, Kiwi, Brit, Seppo etc... but Thailand doesn't follow this principle - they're not requiring you to relinquish your other one? You're either Thai or something else, can't be both

Is that because she has to choose when she turns 18/21 or whatever it is in Thailand?

My eldest had to choose when she turned 18 - she chose Aussie and German of course. The littler one (14) still holds Aussie and German as well but when she turns 18 . . . choose.

My daughter has UK, Aussie and Thai passports... the wife has Thai and Aussie.

When travelling, on departure from BKK occasionally Thai immigration have asked to see their Western passports to ensure they can enter the country of destination without visa issues. Usually it's just the airline that does this, but also sometimes the immigration officer. They have never mentioned anything bad about having dual citizenship.

We've been deporting a fair few kiwi miscreants in recent years that came here to advance their criminal career, didn't bother getting citizenship, went to jail for their crimes various- and were promptly deported upon completion of their term.

Warn the wife PH. Dear Jacinta is most upset about this, but we prefer to send convict scum offshore where possible. Bit like old mother england, e'hhh?

The lazy cretins didn't even bother to get Aussie PR.
As for Jacinda, she can get stuffed with her thin skinned PR machine vote buying existence.
She doesn't want them all back because they add to the already large number of crims here of Maori ethnicity and that looks bad for the 'please everyone' politician.
15% of the population, over 50% of the prison population.
It's surprising how few Kiwis agree with the 'repatriation'
