I never cared for Halloween either. I did a lot of Trick or Treating with my children as I did not want to deprive them of the festivities growing up.

Now...The Day of the Dead in Mexico is a full on blast with awesome Tequila and beautiful women.

The worst American holiday of all is Valentines Day.

I also had a great background for my online science classes today

    Happy Halloween!-halloween-jpg

As others have said, Halloween is not an American 'thing'. It stems from an ancient Celtic festival. The yanks just added the 'trick or treat' bit and pumpkins.

I always liked Halloween as it was a chance to be whoever you wanted and get silly. I remember various years wearing different costumes, where I would dress up and see all the kids dress up at school. We had fun times. This year surely is so different for everyone due to Covid. Not as safe to go out trick or treating, and many children are learning online don't get to enjoy the dress up day festivities as much. Although, I had three students dress up at home and were excited to show everyone in the class and myself their costumes.

Even working abroad all of the international schools did some fun day for Halloween. When I lived in Asia, if I wouldn't have been teaching, then I wouldn't have celebrated as much. In Asian countries they didn't really celebrate it like in the west.

Here in the west, people go overboard on these holidays especially with the whole candy thing for both Halloween and Valentine's Day/Christmas. It does get a bit much, but i'll always enjoy the dressing up part of Halloween.

how about a little personal/national responsibility?

someone from where you're from brought it there.....and enough people there adopted the holiday so it's part of the culture.

    halloween is fun for:
    kids--free candy
    teenagers--go out an cause trouble
20 somethings--get drunk and take drugs...and if still conscious, have sex.
