    Disney films carry snowflake/PC warning......

    Report from the Beeb:

Disney updates content warning for racism in classic films - BBC News

Best record your favourite films before they are banned for upsetting blacks/queers/Siamese cats etc.....

Racism and stereotypes in classic Disney films
Lady and the Tramp (1955): Two Siamese cats, Si and Am, are depicted with anti-Asian stereotypes. There is also a scene at a dog pound where heavily-accented dogs all portray the stereotypes of the countries their breeds are from - such as Pedro the Mexican Chihuahua, and Boris the Russian Borzoi

The Aristocats (1970): A Siamese cat called Shun Gon, voiced by a white actor, is drawn as a racist caricature of an Asian person. He plays the piano with chopsticks

Dumbo (1941): A group of crows that help Dumbo learn how to fly have exaggerated stereotypical black voices. The lead crow is called Jim Crow - a reference to a set of racist segregationist laws in the southern US at the time - and he is voiced by a white actor, Cliff Edwards

Jungle Book (1968): The character of King Louie, an ape with poor linguistic skills, sings in a Dixieland jazz style and is shown as lazy. The character has been criticised for being a racist caricature of African-Americans

Peter Pan (1953): The film refers to Native people as "redskins", a racist slur. Peter and the Lost Boys also dance in headdresses, which Disney now says is a "form of mockery and appropriation of Native peoples' culture and imagery". A song originally called "What makes the red man red" was also decried as racist - it was later renamed as "What makes the brave man brave"

Song of the South (1946): One of Disney's most controversial movies, which has never been released on video or DVD in the US. Its depiction of plantation worker Uncle Remus perpetuates an old racist myth that slaves were happy in the cotton fields

Are there any films which insult Caucasians? Sure, but that's not racist or politically-incorrect, is it?

What is comedy going to like in the future? Sanitised, PC rubbish with cues to let you know when to laugh, (or when not to laugh because there's an LGBTQ+++ in-shot.)

    Pathetic.....

    Was it wrong back then?

    I dunno.

How far back in time do we have to go before we reach a time when it was not wrong?

Is it a slur to use a name that is a simple factual reference to skin colour?

Why then is referring to a dark coloured person as a 'Black" not racist?

It seems that the framing of the reference as a 'racist slur' is using a novel perspective. Possibly correct within a modern framework - if enough people agree. But was it 'racist' at the time it was used?

It seems as though any oblique reference to physical attributes of any race other than whites is now thin ice. Is this useful?

It seems that the recent re-framing of all references to any non-white racial attribute as 'treading on eggshell' material may prolong the meaningful process of getting to a place where race really does not matter when it comes to opportunity in life.

considering that he was a notorious racist and anti-semite, yeah he probably is.

    A bunch of 50 year old+ movies are going to ̶b̶e̶ ̶r̶e̶m̶o̶v̶e̶d̶.̶

A content advisory notice for racism in classic Disney films, in place since last year, has been updated with a strengthened message. When played on the Disney+ streaming service, films such as Dumbo, Peter Pan and Jungle Book now flash up with a warning about stereotypes.

"This programme includes negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures," the warning says.

"These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now."

The message adds that rather than remove the content, "we want to acknowledge its harmful impact, learn from it and spark conversation to create a more inclusive future together".
Most of them have at one or two newer versions anyway.

When was the last time anyone of you posting on this thread had watched those particular versions of those movies?

A strengthened warning? Christ on a brick, you're the freaking snowflake, Simon.
Warning: Be cautious if you are a fragile pink

The created paradigm shifts are creeping in ever so slowly.
Before ya know it, there won't be any such natural balance.
    Existence will be forcibly homogenous.

They used to put shit about not pirating movies at the beginning.

I never bothered reading through that either.

Seems you're the snowflake Simon, no-one else really gives a fuck.

LoL, I'd certainly give a fcuk if I couldn't watch the original versions of these films, as well as Alf Garnet, Love Thy Neighbour etc etc. I have zero time and interest in political correctness, nor arguing the toss with BLM anarchists etc. I mentioned this Beeb report as an example of how some people in the world have gone totally barmy - IMHO of course.

Oh @raycarey, stop posting your childish crap on my notification timeline. It makes you look even more of a twat than you really are....

I'd lay bets that placing this kind of warning on these films is only the first step before they are quietly removed from Netflix completely. Thin end of the edge and all that.

The thing that will get them removed from Netflix is Disney+

As long as they make money, they'll be available.

Fucking hell, everything in America has a ton of warnings.

I mean they sell sleeping tablets with "WARNING: MAY CAUSE DROWSINESS" and "DO NOT OPERATE MACHINERY" labels.
