China delivers a recovery masterclass
The 4.9 per cent rebound in China's economy has left faltering Western economies in its wake. President Xi Jinping intends to press home that growth advantage.
China's third-quarter growth of 4.9 per cent was the latest lesson in its schooling of the West in post-pandemic recovery.
The revival of China's economy from the biggest contraction since 1992 to a pace of growth Western policymakers could only dream of only six months later, offers a masterclass in recovery - one that stands in stark contrast to the rolling virus crisis and political buffoonery dogging its arch-nemesis across the Pacific.
China's iron-fisted containment of the virus and its targeted deployment of stimulus means it will be the only major economy to record year-on-year growth in 2020, an advantage likely to be pressed home as the US faces weeks, if not months, of political uncertainty and growth-dulling dithering over more stimulus.
Having triggered a trade war with China, a terminal Trump presidency confronts the galling prospect of the Chinese economy growing 1.9 per cent this year compared a 4.3 per cent contraction in the US economy, according to the International Monetary Fund.
And in a fitting coda for a US president obsessed with the stockmarket, Chinese stocks are outpacing their Wall Street rivals this year. The Shanghai Composite is up 9.4 per cent compared with a 7.8 per cent gain for the S&P500 Index.
Donald Trump may have won some battles along the way, but that has only emboldened China to win the war.
The tragedy of the Trump administration is that instead of making America great again at China's expense, he's only strengthened Beijing's resolve to dedicate the full resources of the Chinese state to ensuring its rise as a next generation economic superpower.
President Xi Jinping is betting on his "dual circulation" economic strategy to drive the next phase of China growth.
The plan involves a greater reliance on China's domestic markets and investments in the hardware of a 21st century economy, including renewable energy, 5G networks and cutting edge computing.
Some clarity around how China will translate that ambition to reality should come when the political elite gather in Beijing next week to formulate the country's next five-year plan.
While the US presidential election will monopolise headlines over coming weeks, investors need to focus on the evolution of China's economic and financial policies as it seeks to elevate the self-sufficiency of its economy.
China is no longer the exotic emerging market investment destination it once was. It is going mainstream and more Western money will flow there no matter the tensions between it and the West.
The gains in mainland sharemarkets reflect the flow of funds into a market that has a heavier weighting in faster growing sectors such as consumer, healthcare and technology. These are all industries that will enjoy policy tailwinds.
Hong Kong has seen a rash of secondary listings by Chinese tech behemoths such as Alibaba and JD.com. Ant Group, which raised its IPO valuation target to $US280 billion ($395 billion), will dual list in Hong Kong and Shanghai - not New York.
And while Trump has moved to limit access to high tech exports such as semiconductor chips, Chinese companies are closing the gap.
Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp, which produces 19 per cent of China's chips, announced last week it had produced its first seven nanometre chip.
At a time when low yields and negative real interest rates stalk developed markets, it's no wonder investors have growing interest in Chinese stocks and bonds.
Low growth and the collapse of yields in the West could not be more fortunately timed as China opens up its financial markets.
Investors can now buy stocks in Shanghai and Shenzhen through Hong Kong. Mainland bonds are now available, with the biggest and most closely followed fixed income indices including Chinese bonds.
Unlike the manipulated bond markets in the US and Europe, China's bond market is operating like a proper bond market should: yields have gone up as growth and inflation expectations have risen.
China's 10-year bond offers a 3.2 per cent yield which, coupled with a strengthening currency, makes it a no-brainer for global funds eager for income in a world where bonds with comparable maturities in the West are measured in basis points.
Whether Australians like it or not, their retirement savings will fund the retooling of China's economy. It's time to pay as much attention to what happens in Beijing as in Washington.
China delivers a recovery masterclass
Lets face it, in any situation where Donald trump is designated 'the leader of the free world', the chinese are obviously much smarter.

The case that there is a genetic difference in average intelligence levels between races is indisputable. Anyone who spouts otherwise is just spruiking what they want to be true, and ignoring the facts. How Woke.
Chinese is not a race, however. They are part of the Mongoloid race!
Except that it isn't.
How throw-away . . .
Quite, yet you respond to a thread with this title
"Are Chinese a smarter race?"
So, which is it? You either believe they are a race and 'smarter' or you do but don't or don't but do . . .
Woke
The thing is, people like you don't realise you are part of the problem. You sacrifice Facts at the altar of sociopolitical expediency. That is no way to arrive toward answers, or even ask the right questions.
I see . . . Which problem would this be, Dr?
I see . . . which facts would these be and what area of sociopolitical expediency do tread?
I see . . . and you are the harbinger of these answers and/or questions.
So, why do you answer a question, supporting its premise, about the 'Chinese race' and four pages later, when it suits your sociopolitical expediency, you decry the existence of such a race?
I'm sure most here would be aware of the categorisation of 'race', though an antiquated method to determine ethnicity, regarding Chinese/Mongoloids but the discussion went ahead nevertheless and everyone knew what was meant . . . including you.
As the definition of 'race' varies from discussion to discussion, what is your opinion as to what constitutes a 'race' and what are these races we are all divided into?
If an ethnic Chinese and a Caucasian procreate, is their child half as intelligent as a 'pure' Chinese and twice as intelligent as a Caucasian?
Ah, Eugenics, eh. The next step.
You know, I have often wondered about the subconscious eugenics as they apply to the human race and it's behavioral characteristics. Such as caucasian males and asian females rather seeking each other out, mating and procreating. And, I must say, producing quite exceptional offspring. But, on reflection, I think this is closer to Darwinism than eugenics.
Then where did you get your science from?
Intelligence is Determined Primarily by Genes
85% of variations in intelligence are due to genetic variations… Here are the arguments that demonstrate it without a shadow of a doubt.
- 1. High Heritability
- 2. High Stability of Racial I.Q in all Environments
- 3. Stability Over Time
- 4. I.Q Differences are Reflected in Brain Size Differences
- 5. Isolation Time
- 6. Studies on Racial Hybrids
- 7. Qualitative Differences in the Brain
- 8. Adoption Studies
- 9. Race Differences in Reaction Time
- 10. Race Differences in Inspection Time
- 11. European Admixture Among Afro-Americans
- 12. 76 Musculoskeletal Features, Proximity to Homo Erectus
- 13. Intelligence is Part of a Set of Evolutionary Traits
- 14. Position in Evolution
- 15. Regression to the Mean
- 16. Inbreeding Depression
- 17. Racial Differences in EEG
- 18. Spearman’s hypothesis
- 19. Heritability Increases with Age
- 20. Racial Differences in Intellectual Maturation Speeds
- 21. Existence of Racial Differences in Intelligence for 10 Thousand Year
- 22. Differences in Gene Frequencies linked to Intellignece

Specifically-
2. High Stability of Racial I.Q in Different Environments4
-> supports genetic causality (Arabs in Europe of first and second generation, immigration …)
Slight increase (84 to 88 for Arabs … genes « hold improvement on leach4.2« )
1. Ashkenazi Jews (110) (America, Europe …)
2. East Asians (105) (Asia, Europe, America …)
3. Europeans (100) (Australia, America, Europe …)
4. Inuit (91)
5. Caucasian-African Hybrids (90) (Europe, America …)
6. Southeast Asians (90) (Europe, America, Asia)
7. Native Americans (87) (North and South America)
8. North African and South Asian (86) (Middle East, America, Europe …)
9. Africans (80) (Europe, North and South America, Africa)
10. Australian Aborigines (62)
This hierarchy remains rigorously unchanged and is reflected in all multiracial countries4.1 In almost all social parameters (wages, socio-economic levels, level of crimes and offenses, prevalence of talented people, prevalence of mental retardation … see » Intellectual Hierarchy Around the World « )
But I have a question. Yes, average IQ varies between races- quite significantly. But you seem to assume that less intelligent races are in some way inferior. Why?
