In Malaysia we go on family vacations to Thailand and none of our friends thinks it's odd or debauched.

I arrived here from Indonesia, so was a monger already. Or maybe because I came from Indonesia I wasn't prude-ish.

One does notice this a lot on TV. Everything Asian or Thai is crap. So does provoke a wonder of why they came here.

Normies typically have a sense of cultural superiority over "counter culture" movements & foreign cultures. They will often try to discredit out cultures or choices falling outside of their majority think claiming those of other dispositions are mentally ill.

They care more about the opinion of the projected "standard" of society than any actual values or beliefs.

It does yes. Some of this can be out of your control

I think its different for NZ and Australia because you are so much closer. Here in the west coast, its bloody far. And Hollywood sets the tone for it. TV shows and movies usually have negative lines associated with Thailand. There's a really popular movie with a line that goes like this "he ended up marrying a 14 year old boy in Thailand" Shit like that. For some people, that's the extent of their knowledge about Thailand or E asia

Change the people you hang out with . .
I have in some cases. I dont care to hang out with anyone who never ventures outside of their bubble. They are too boring and irrelevant. Until you travel, you don't realize how small you are.

though in our case they'd be absolutely right, wouldn't they - you're a self-confessed and proud whore monger
Yes. They just happen to be right. But they are wrong if they think that's the only reason.

When the extent of someones knowledge of Thailand is based on a Hollywood line about old men marrying 14 year old boys , the whore monger charge isnt the biggest concern.

If you are a member of this forum , you are in a counter culture

Lots of people seem to be fascinated by Thai ladyboys in the UK.

There are troupes of them doing Tiffany's style shows all around.

I'm not aware of pedophiles getting all that much coverage in Hollywood, however.

In fact I can't think of a single movie that featured one.

So, any examples of pedophiles on celluloid?

    Movies or TV?

    Reduce the aloof.

It might have been the movie Meet The Parents. I swear it was a box office hit movie like that. Someone else might be able to confirm

    So...one movie.

    I think you're talking crap.

    Again.

There's simply a perception that pedos are attracted to Thailand because of news stories, and probably also because some people find it comforting to think a problem that may actually be on their doorstep is worse thousands of miles away.

I've noticed it sprinkled around a bit. One box office hit is all many millions of ignorant brain dead cvnts need. Some areas, this bullshit gets drowned out. Like Aus and NZ and probably the UK.

I think Lolita is the only 'famous' movie. But I'm there are plenty of more recent movies with old men leering at 'not-quite-18' young women.

I'm really not sure there are.

It's odd that their names are so elusive, if so.

And the link between this and Thailand, via Hollywood?

    Completely non-existent.

People are 'starting to realize'? I think it's been pretty well known for a long time. 20 years ago KSR was full of backpackers and gap year travelers having a ball even going back further to the days of the hippie trail.
It's always been known as an exotic destination. The reason people around you snigger and roll their eyes when they hear Thailand mentioned is because that's the type of people you hang around with.
