Perhaps the 97-2006 rates were too good to be true. But today's monetary authorities in the west , with their Boomer bailouts , are going to be hard on the respective currencies. Maybe we will look back at today's rates and think it was too good to be true too.

But our good leaders always make sure that our imperial subjects shoot themselves in the foot anytime we do. Make sure they engage in monetary stupidity as well. So maybe things will hold.

If not , there's always coupes and civil unrest to fund, to cut them down to size.

As an expat, To those who would ever consider moving to Thailand to retire, I would recommend keeping an income source in your home country, Invest in Thailand only what you are prepared to lose, Get to know the Thais that live around you(just smile and say hello). You will be much happier and find people here are easy going and caring. Just keep away from the tourist areas, the Thai people have had jack of the farangs here, and will not tolerate a western uppity attitude. Come over on a holiday, rent a car and travel the country, head north and see the true LOS, It is an amazing place.

Oh no, would never say that Trump is good around here, "Orange man bad" is the only political observation the people around here want to hear, and if I told them i supported Biden they would then really give a fuck.

One thing I thought i learned (there isnt such thing as learning in this world) in the last disasterous 10 years was that its better to be close to your investments. I guess it depends if you have a good lackey or agency taking care of your 2 crack houses in the asshole of Ohio

As far as physical assets go, I want to be close. And I'd accept the risk of the assets being in Theighland before I'd do the absentee owner thing.

So no. I'm going to challenge you on that. That just isn't useful advice.

Understandably. That depends on what and where the assets are, and the company managing them. You can buy 3 houses in a low income area for the same price as the 1 house in a family area, My experience is the latter and that family has been my only tenant since 2006.

I bet Deeks can't even speak Thai very well let alone converse with his neighbours on anything but food and the weather.

deeks/Booners talking weather with his neighbours (there's another hint for you, BM):

White guy looking at Thai people who are wondering why this fat and sweaty man is talking to them; 'hot, hot', he says waving his chubby hands towards his face and chins, pretending to be holding a fan.

Boon Mee then walks on thinking how connected he is with the locals and their environment . . . the locals watch him walk on and wonder why western countries deposit their retarded geriatrics in their village.

And you may also assume that the farangs living up north might have a similar but opposing view of the sexpats living down south. The best their thai vocab extends to is "how much for short time"

I'd be very much surprised if any sexpat has or uses that much grammatically correct Thai in their dealings.

So I am a Thailand Expat, are you too?
I consider my self long term visitor as have only been here 34 out of the past 36 years, (1 in Cambodia, 1 back in California)
    27 years in Jomtien.
    Oh how it's changed.
lived in Jomtien back in 84, it was nice there as you really felt it was separate place from Pattaya..now...

I wont be a expat here till i die here and as i am moving back to Cambodia next year,( was set to move last june but....) hope i hold on till than

Hope you hold on as well Richard. I will be here til it's time for the big burn. Not a temple burn but a pyre on a raft floating down the Mekhong.

Every successful business is a little miracle on its own.

Every successful investment is a little miracle too. Advice is useless. Everything is a gamble

I only spend part of the year in Thailand so I guess I am a fake expat. Actually no expat at all since I have not given up my Pat.
I guess that makes me a Pat Pat which is twice as good as an averige pat.

Even if you were a pat , it goes on seniority from there. If you've been an expat for 5 years , your input is not legit because someone else has been there for 10 years and so on.
