Yes, there are many that may have it better, relative to monetary comparison. But the are far, far more who have it much worse.

You really are quite a case, even for this place.

Then you probably didn't grow up in the North American suburbs in the 1990's.

Summer of '85 I spent two weeks in the Seychelles, and a week in Mauritius; always regretted not adding another week to go to Reunion.

^Both Seychelles and Mauritius were also great, although my marlin fishing plans for Mauritius were scuppered by stormy weather.

Some of them had it better. Material possessions isn't everything.

They don't know what they don't have. They could freely move around on motorbikes with their freinds. They weren't being driven around in Oldsmobile Cutlasses by their pathetic Boomer parents to go anywhere

Réunion holds the world records for the most rainfall in 12-, 24-, 72- and 96-hour periods.
    Sounds like Aberdeen.

Looks decent, although a quick momondo flight search says that the fastest and cheapest return flights from Bangkok via Chennai in March is 46,800 baht.

Was due to explore the island this year until C19 put my plans on hold.

While working for an American company out of Phoenix the VP Sales asked me, GM Sales & Mktg EMEA, to book our annual Int'l Sales meeting in Malta because it was
    a) Europe,
    B) the warmest European country (It was January)

Yes, it was warm . . . not. Americans.

Two days of meetings and then back . . . so, Malta. Yup - been there. Couldn't tell you a single thing except that the hotel was an 17th century building and nice.

    Sigh

Yes, an SUV would have changed your outlook, I'm sure. What a horrible childhood you had.

It appears you look at everything through a victim mentality lens, so it's unlikely anyone here will change that viewpoint.

    But I'm stubborn, so here.....

We lived in a shoebox - but we still had it better than socal, it seems, because we weren't surrounded by opulence, wealth, nutritious food, good schooling, first rate medical care, a safe environment . . .

But thats not what it's all about. We had a choice to be poor. We chose our shoebox (blue with white stripes - we were gangsta). Backspin didn't have a choice - he was born into his evil middle class environment.

We had it better than socal. We had FREEDOM. Freedom from opulence, wealth, nutritious food, good schooling, first rate medical care, a safe environment . . .

    We were FREE!!!!

Boomers can't seem to reflect on any subject without it getting wound up in their salvation stories and emancipation.

I have been 8 times and used to love it, their rabbit dish stuffat tal-fenek is lovely. Watching Bocce or playing it with the locals on the prom with a few beers, the history and the friendly locals - sadly its a stop off now for migrants and its over-run, that and rife corruption is leaving its mark when i stopped in a few years ago on a works gig.
