    Empty billboards

Has anyone noticed a huge amount of empty billboards on Thai roads as of late?

My wifey who has been in the manufacturing/engineering/advertising field for the past 15 years told me that normally there is a 6 moth waiting list to get a spot into one of them advertisements and the prices obviously ain't that cheap.

Surely if Thailand tourist sector represents only a fraction of GDP and Farang is insignificant for Thai economy then why is advertising impacted so badly? I would say a closure of major shopping malls is next, but she keeps convincing me that they (central, mall) make a huge amount of money on rent.

I smell an economic shitstorm.... how about you?

You seem to be putting two and two together and getting five. What's the connection between farang and advertising billboards?

Surely sluggishness in the advertising industry is just linked to a generally flat (or worse) economic situation as experienced in most of the countries of the world, with or without a significant tourist industry?

Or in other words, wtf are you on about?

I came across this advertisement for space on a digital billboard in Korat recently.

For only 3000 Baht I thought of putting up an ad saying 'Turn around, there's nothing to do in Korat', just for the fun of it. Or maybe just a photo of my ugly mug that everyone could look at while stuck in traffic!

    It's 9,000 baht.

And for a new billboard that may or may not have been built yet, that may or may not have the appropriate planning permissions yet.

    Good luck!

^ I think the gmail account and lack of website shows that the company may not be cash rich.
