^I'm lucky, I have a good BUPA international [profession specific] coverage which is more than enough cover.

The criteria is that the policy must cover hospital treatment in Thailand up to 100K USD [any normal half decent policy normally covers 1M USD] and it must not specifically exclude Covid19 treatment.

Important to note, the policy does not have to specifically include Covid19 treatment, but must not exclude it.

Not much more than that I can help you with.

I believe that the visa requirement can only be met by about ten companies that were listed somewhere on a forum here a while back.
I struggle with the search facility on TD or I'd be a little more specific. Someone more skilful than I can probably find it. I only remember that my insurer AIA was not on the list.

I carry a Cigna Global Expat Package that covers both myself and my wife. Picked it up several years ago from the location of USA. Insurance gobbledegook - location was of great importance to validate wife's coverage as a Thai citizen residing in Thailand she was specifically excluded as she is a resident of her home country. I had to get a detailed letter proving she is covered in Thailand even though she is a citizen. PIA to cover all the details.

Our policy covers both of us, anywhere in the world to a maximum of USD $1M per illness/accident/hospitalization. In Patient Only. USD $5k deductible/copay/coinsurance per incident. Cost of USD $6k this year. 64yo USA male/60yo Thai female. Rates have been increasing @ 15% per annum. This plan covers our needs and will continue to cover our needs. NO outpatient and not a Thai ins company so it does not satisfy Thai Imm Non O-A Visa extension insurance requirements.

As far as Covid I received email notification from Cigna Global that we ARE covered for Covid.

Haven't looked in a long time. But, Thai Immigration requires THB 40k Out-patient and THB 400k in-patient coverage from one of the listed Thai Insurance companies to extend a Non-immigrant O-A Visa. So, the going consensus (pre-Covid) was to exit Thailand and apply for a Non-immigrant O visa which does not have the insurance requirement. Closed international borders kinda take that option off the table.

Again, I haven't looked in a long time, but, if you are unlucky enough to be here on a Non-immigrant O-A visa, when it is time to extend you will need to procure a cost-excessive (my opinion only) policy from one of the listed companies. In the event none of the insurance companies will provide you with a policy - you are screwed. However - if you can document in writing the none of the companies will provide you coverage, you may be able to plead a case on a humanitarian basis and get an IO to allow you to extend. Possibly offering self-insurance showing THB 400k in the bank.

Now, again, I haven't looked in a long time - but, if memory serves me right. Many people applied for a non-immigrant category O-A visa because it does not require THB 400k in a Thai bank. Coincidental that the mandatory insurance requirement is for THB 400k of coverage.

    Hope this helps.

In your shoes I would be requesting a quotation from ALL the listed Thai insurance companies.

    Good Luck.

HH - I haven't looked in a long time - however - specific to visa extensions - see below

    Visa Extension – สำนักงานตรวจคนเข้าเมือง – Immigration Bureau

    18. In the case of being a family member of a Thai national

In the case of being a family member of a Thai national (applicable only to parents, spouse, children,
    adopted children, or spouse’s children):
    Criteria for Consideration

    1. The alien must have been granted a non-immigrant visa (NON-IM).
    2. The alien must have proof of relationship.
    3. In the case of spouse, the relationship must be de jure and de facto; or
    4. In the case of children, adopted children, or spouse’s children, said children, adopted children,
    5. or spouse’s children must not be married, must live with the alien as part of the family, and must not
    6. be over 20 years of age; or
    7. In the case of parents, the father or mother must maintain an average annual income of no less
    8. than Baht 40,000 per month throughout the year or must have deposited funds of no less than Baht
    9. 400,000 to cover expenses for one year.
    10. For other necessary cases, the Commissioner or Deputy Commissioner of Immigration Bureau
    11. is granted the authority to make decisions regarding approval on a case-by-case basis.
    12. In the case of marriage to a Thai woman, the alien husband must earn an average annual income
    13. of no less than Baht 40,000 per month or must have no less than Baht 400,000 in a bank account in
    14. Thailand for the past two months to cover expenses for one year.

    Documents to be submitted

    1. Application form
    2. Copy of applicant’s passport
    3. Copy of documents proving relationship, such as a marriage certificate, a birth certificate,
    4. registration of child legitimization, household registration certificate, child adoption registration
    5. certificate, or other evidence from the government or relevant agency
    6. Copy of evidence proving the Thai nationality of the spouse, parents, children, or adopted
    7. children, such as a national ID card, copy of household registration certificate, or other evidence
    8. issued by the government or relevant agency
    9. Only for Criteria (5) and (6), the applicant must attach a funds deposit certificate issued by a
    10. bank in Thailand and a copy of a bankbook, or attach documents proving that the parents or alien
    11. husband earns an average monthly income of no less than Baht 40,000 throughout the year, such as
    12. any particular individual income tax return together with payment receipt, evidence of receiving
    13. retirement pension, evidence of receiving interest from funds deposit, or evidence of having other
    14. funds issued by the relevant agency. An affidavit must also be submitted confirming the alien’s
    15. marital or parental status with a Thai national.

The above has no insurance requirement - the category of retirement has no insurance requirement, just more money.

Everything is always "at the discretion of the IO".

Again, from my recollection the insurance was for O-A category and not O category - although the possibility of it extending to Cat O's was discussed at length (ThaiVisa).

I haven't heard any alarm bells concerning insurance required for Non Immigrant O visa's or extensions. With everyone's attention on Covid...

Everything being set aside and/or considered - whatever Thai Immigration requires of me I will comply with. If the balance tips too far to the wrong side - repatriation is an option - not desired, but doable. Life Marches Merrily On...

For clarity, my post was about the requirement at present for entering Thailand. Without the 100K insurance you cant be issued a permission to travel to the country.
