Forget what?
Maybe we never forget, but the real problem is we never learn.
Never forget to Learn.
Longer but point made. A lot to remember innit.
"America Has Been At War 93% of the Time – 222 Out of 239 Years – Since 1776“, i.e. the U.S. has only been at peace for less than 20 years total since its birth. I wanted to check, get a better understanding and look at other countries in the world."

"Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect,"
That's nuts especially when you consider the majority of those 'wars' have been fought with them as the invading force (and often against poor brown people).
. . . and in safe distance from the US, against countries who wouldn't have the capability to fight back, defend themselves or attack the US (Pearl Harbor - seriously . . . no. Twin Towers? 3000 people vs how many hundreds of thousands.
The most astonishing thing is that the US is a democracy where the people allow this.
Crazy stuff, Norton . . . I hope your friend rests in peace
Yep, couldn’t agree more. It’s my hope The USA pulls all its forces out of Europe and closes the bases. Europe hasn’t needed US support for several decades. Better the US pulls out of all of most other locations around the world as well. Most folks in the USA are tired of fighting wars to defend freedoms most people in other countries don’t understand or appreciate anyhow. You want to maintain the freedom you have in your country, defend your interests around the world yourselves.
^ Many times our leaders slogans and words did not match their after elected actions.
^Some are hardwired...but currently many join the military because of lack of better career opportunities. In the past there was the draft.
The draft ended right before I came of age. But I spoke with one military recruiter and decided it wasn't for me. Maybe if I had joined I'd be a world traveled big shot like my cousin Storekeeper.![]()
True . . . but the US keeps its troops there . . . and you have heard of NATO, haven't you? The US has massive economic interests which it deems necessary to defend.
Go for it, the US' insistence on being the self-appointed world policeman is an old and tired cliché - all you're doing is bullying and bombing countries that can't defend themselves and pose no threat to the US.
The Middle East is a good case in point, supporting dictatorships and being paid like cheap mercenaries. Yup.
You mean the US style of freedom now being enjoyed by the people of Vietnam, Iraq, Syria, Libya etc...? Yup, American legends . . . in their own minds
It's interesting how only the US sees this as a military crusade, forcing 'freedom' on others as long as the economic principles are held up. US economic principles, that is.
Lovely right-wing, uneducated speech blurbs a la Trump and other nutters. Aaahhh, if only life were so simple
Does the US need OUTUS military bases?
Really a pretty complicated subject when you look below the surface.
The numbers:
The US has 200k+ troops stationed at 800+ military bases in 70+ foreign countries at a cost of $150B+.
The US also has 10k+ drones, 6k+ ICBMs, 14 SSBNs and 11 aircraft carriers.
Now, as there are multiple delivery systems for both the drones and the ICBMs the USA can deploy them anywhere in the world.
Each of the fourteen Ohio class SSBNs aka holes in the water can deliver 20 SLBMs with multiple independently targeted warheads anywhere in the world.
Each of the eleven aircraft carriers can deliver both fighter and bomber aircraft anywhere in the world.
On the basis of the above, the short answer is No, the USA does not need OUTUS military bases.
However, if the USA closed all OUTUS bases they would be depriving the host countries of significant dollars, the deployed troops would lose their most exotic vacationing spots and the US military recruitment would lose the biggest incentive for attracting the smart and healthy under 26ers away from civilian life. Might even have to reinstate the draft.![]()
