    A Ferkin Fanook

Theres a big void in my life, after covingeing all 86 episodes of The Sopranos. No more cawfee and got myself a gun on repeat.

Nothing else on TV seems worth watching now...Gonna have to play it all back again.

Having watched Gomorrah up to season 3 prior to bingeing The Sopranos, I can now see what a pile of shit that and that Irish shite luigi posted up really were and fukked if I can be arsed to download the latest series now.

    The dark humour was sublime.

Lying here reflecting, after enjoying all the slayings, the thing that shocked me most was the part when the family guy Vito appears in motorbike attire at a gay nightclub and goes on to suck off a security guard.

It goes on to get more shocking for me though, after Vito's night out, with him then being branded a 'fernook' and the consequent whole of the Mob calling for his head and then his eventual bludgeoning and sodimisation by pool cues in a hotel room.

That was quite sad I thought and I started thinking that was probably a normal Friday night out, pre-covid for Bettyboo.

I'd never heard this word fernook before so googled it and it comes up as the Italian shortening of the word Finocchio, which is Fennel and quite popular in Italian cooking apparently, although I can't seem to find that ingredient in any of Nonna's recipes

Made me think of how people really were victimised for their sexual preferences, the angst over homosexuality and how times have changed and how we have moved on. But as TV series go, what has improved on the masterpiece that was The Sopranos?

    I'm re-watching too, and at season 4.

Tony in his vest guzzling late night ice cream topped with whipped cream from a can reminded me of someone.

Think we've got threads already about what to watch on tv, and even threads (for some reason) on what to watch on tv during covid.

...Nonna sliced up raw bulb fennel for salads and roasted fennel halves with EVOO and garlic to serve with Parmesan...I mix it into salads here to add a different flavor and substantial crunch...thank you for inquiring...

hmm... let's shift gears a bit.

Which is more realistic - The Godfather Trilogy or The Sopranos'

I vote for the Soprano's. More blood - also the opening credits provide a soft spot as I was born and raised local.

The Godfather - arguably the best movie ever created provides too much romanticization or a pretty sorid criminal element.

Just up to SE4 now, after bingeing the previous 3. So good, I'm going to have to ration myself with the remaining material.

Dunno how I managed to miss this masterpiece of television thus far. I've even seen the spin-off "Lilyhammer" before Sopranos.

    Nothing compares. Not even Casablanca.

I was getting into Dexter but I heard it ends worse than The Sopranos Gonna give The Godfather movies a go.

Dill, probably a stupid idea, but if you have not seen Breaking Bad then watch it. Great binge watching.

It’s really funny, and so well observed.

Tony taking the piss out of AJ’s uniform when he gets sent to military college in S03, for example.

4 is my favourite season, as the characters of Christopher and Adriana were so well written and acted, and their ‘peak’ is in S04.

Yeah, I enjoyed Lilyhammer too. Shame they cut it short but like most series they run out of ideas. I won't ruin the end of The Sopranos and it wasn't a bad ending really. Judge for yourself. Enjoy.

As for picking a favourite series, I'd have to have a good think but it never got stale to me and after going into The Sopranos on the back of Gomorrah which got tiresome with the death of someone at the end of every episode, it was a bit strange finishing episodes without the predictable drama and the music that lead up to it. The writing and humour in The Sopranos was a different level too.

Gomorrah looks like it was made to try and improve on The Sopranos. But it's not even close.

Best TV ever in my book.

I agree. The Sopranos is top stuff. I also really enjoyed "The Wire" true to life slingin and living the life in projects. Brutal series.

...agree: loved listening to the kitchen Italian I grew up with...a flash of recognition during the scene in Pop's kitchen discussing who made the frozen lasagne they had just eaten: Basil leaves on every layer? That's from Carmela...

David Chase, the man behind Soprano's direction wanted the theme to be as close as possible to what happened in New Jersey and hence the jargon and accents.

    My favourite Television drama ever!

Yes, that rings a bell! we built a rig in Houston in 1992, one of the shareholders that used to take me for lunch lived with her for quite a few years, quite a character! Said she was a horny "girl"
That's about as close as I have ever been to the rich and famous
