At least less whacky than hydrogen cars. They can store cold liquid hydrogen. It boils off fast but the boiloff can be burned in the engines.

BTW Elon Musk talks about battery operated supersonic planes. Not sure what to think about that, sounds as crazy as any of his projects. He would like to do it but is too busy with other projects.

^ Aircraft engines have already been developed that can run on Hydrogen so, yes, less whacky than people may think.

Electric cars are heavy and they will need to get the weight down to produce a successful electric airliner. Just replacing the jet engine bleed air system with an electrical equivalent, as per B-787, has had difficulties.

What about automated electric cars in every city? You book a car using a phone app and it drives you where you want to go within the city limits. It could replace private transport within cities completely and complement public transport.

It is what I hope for if I can't afford my own self driving car. Maybe 5 years and I can no longer drive safely myself.

A lot of people are having a go at on board generation in hybrid type installations.
It's a good start for future of hydrogen power when the big manufacturers finally figure out onboard generation is the way to go in hybrid designs using ICE engines.
