Anyone know what's wrong with this cat?

Daughter bought home a bloody cat the other day. She found it somewhere. It seems friendly enough and though seemed pretty malnourished it's responding to food and in 2 days has got much stronger but I just noticed this.
before I run up a vet bill I thought I'd run it by the TD veterinarian expert association.
Any idea WTF is going on here?
It seems to have a hole in it.
It doesn't seem infected I.E. red, swollen and puss.

Get a vet to inspect and clean inside first.

Do NOT do that. Cat (or even dog) teeth are filthy. The would needs to be washed out properly. Seal it up and you will just be making an abscess.

If you care about animals the VET is the way to go.
If you don't really give a shit and can avoid a show down with the daughter, dispose of it. In as painless fashion as possible.
It could be cancerous. Only a Vet can tell you.

Point to note; if you get it fixed up it's yours/your daughters for ever.

Doesn't look like a bite to me.
Can you take a photo with a tape alongside. It'd help to get an idea of the size.
It doesn't look like a cut, more of a stab.
    Any bleeding?

Just showed this to M'Sahib, and yes probably caused by another cat. High risk of infection, so best get to a vet. Would you intend to keep it, and do you have other cats? If yes and yes, worth getting it blood tested to see what else it may have, in particular leukemia which can easily be passed to other cats. That's why we have inside and outside cats, and never the twain.

    5 seconds.

After you've cleaned the wound and stopped any bleeding, apply a very small amount of super glue to the area and quickly spread it around before it dries. The glue will harden into a mesh that essentially acts as replacement skin until your body is able to heal itself.

    Fcuking pussy's

You can clean the wound with Hydrogen Peroxide. The vet will do exactly the same.

The vet needs to clean the wound, check for infection, and possibly prescribe an antibiotic before closing it.

It requires a little more thought than that of our wannabe "veterinary field surgeon".

Rabies is endemic here and transmission to humans has come in recent times more from cats than dogs. Taking in a stray cat showing signs of recent trauma without seeking a professional assessment from a qualified vet is really beyond fucking stupid. Bites from a cat incidentally are bad, bad news. An acquaintance in UK bitten by his cat was prescribed strong antibiotics even without presenting with any symptoms of infection, his doctor said that prophylaxis was imperative with cat bites given the real threat of sepsis.

I have held cats while vets clean cat bites on cats. They are a deep puncturing wound, and take a lot of cleaning inside the wound to make sure all bacteria are washed out. Otherwise it is going to abscess, then you start talking major surgery.

Yep get it to a vet.

Better hurry before we have a new user registering to tell us he was a former vet and has seen lots of dead cats.

It seems odd that there is neither blood, nor scab, nor even any redness showing inflammation.

This ^ - it looks like a burst abscess or even a cyst (? dermoid).
If it is is a course of antibiotics is needed.
