Vegan emails neighbours to stop cooking meat

A vegan jogger’s email telling his neighbours not to cook meat when he’s running because the smell is “offensive” has gone viral.

A vegan jogger’s email asking his neighbours to close their windows while cooking meat when he’s on his evening run because “the smell is offensive” has gone viral.
In the email, posted to Twitter by @BestofNextDoor, the self-proclaimed “vegan runner” exhorts his neighbours to “Please close your windows when cooking meat!!”
The complainer says they find “the odour of cooking animals is offensive” when he’s running “around dinnertime” and demands people “only putting vegetables” on barbecues.

The unnamed person, only identified as someone living in San Francisco suburb of Berkeley, California, complains that it gets even worse during warmer weather.
“As a vegan runner, it’s always hard for me this time of year when the weather starts warming up and folks start opening their windows,” the vegan writes.
“Several nights a week I’m out running around dinnertime and when people have their windows open I can smell what they are cooking.”

    Meanwhile, in Berkeley...

The vegan then goes on to explain how lately it’s been getting worse and the community should start researching veganism and become vegans.
“I’ve noticed a sharp uptick recently in the smell of folks cooking meat and it can be quite overpowering,” they write.
“Quite honestly the odour is offensive.
“And I’m hoping our community can have some empathy for its #plantbased neighbours by closing their windows if they are cooking meat and only putting vegetables on their BBQ.
“I don’t want to be a stereotype, so I won’t go into detail why the odour of cooking animals is offensive.
“But I encourage you to do your research and join the movement of ppl who are fighting back.”
The message is written under a subheading of “what’s up neighbourhood, one love”.
Hundreds of Twitter users have flooded the post with hilarious comments or angry responses, calling them “stupid” or suggesting the vegan runner was offensive.
“You must be joking. Might I suggest a much simpler solution: don’t run at dinner time,” one person tweeted.
Jay @TheOne True Jay wrote: “As a dedicated couch potato, as the weather warms up I’m confronted by all these people running around in a never ending quest to look good in spandex.
“I find it offensive and wish people like this vegan runner would confine his exercise inside his closed home on a treadmill.”

John Fuller wrote: I should’ve stopped at “one love.” I definitely stopped at “vegan runner.”
V Muselova wrote: “Dear Vegan neighbour runner:
“As someone who is out of shape (probably from all the meat I consume), your running by my house makes me feel guilty and inadequate.
“It exasperates my feelings of self-loathing. So, I am asking you not to run in front of my house or within eyesight.”
Others were resentful of the vegan’s sense of entitlement or felt it was unfair to expect a neighbour to change their eating habits for one vegan.
One woman tweeted that when she was pregnant the smell of coffee made her violently ill.
“I still managed to not tell people they couldn’t drink or brew it,” she posted.

Someone from Berkeley wrote this and it neatly illustrates the problem with the far left - always whining..:

I should've stopped at "one love." I definitely stopped at "vegan runner."

The tweets today are funny. https://twitter.com/bestofnextdoor/status/1233616695152918528 …

    Dear Vegan neighbor runner:
As someone who is out of shape (probably from all the meat I consume), your running by my house makes me feel guilty and inadequate. It exasperates my feelings of self-loathing. So, I am asking you not to run in front of my house or within eyesight.

Matt Field posted: As a carnivore BBQ chef, it’s always hard for me this time of year when the weather starts warming up and vegan runners start running by my windows.”
While Oliver Smiddy joked: “A bear trap or two should sort out the neighbourhood’s troublesome vegan runner problem.”
Charles Shelfer wondered: “But, how does one cleanse his mind, knowing that 8 out of 10 households along your jogging route are gleefully inside cooking, laughing, and rolling around in, animal meat?”
Many pointed out that the vegan runner was kidding himself when he wrote “I don’t want to be a stereotype”.

    Replying to @bestofnextdoor

“I don’t want to be a stereotype” at the end of a multi paragraph whine about how hard it is being vegan. This is performance art

Can someone tell vegans to stop cooking cabbage and Brussels sprouts when I am walking to the pub, or at least close their windows? The smell is awful.

You're right. I stand corrected. Assumed it was Aus because it was an Aus website.

I dunno... Every time I read one of these things my first thought is 'urban legend'.

I don't doubt there are bolshie vegans out there but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that this all started with a kernel (hee hee) of truth and went from there.

Well, lets seperate vegetarians and vegans here. Vegetarians seem quite rational, and I respect their choice. Vegans are nuts, and seem to revel in being a pain in the ass- such as staging sit down protests in the CBD.

Which is why this sounds a bit unreal, as in fake

Why would you lump everyone who has a food choice together? I know quite a few vegans who are far from being 'nuts' and don't partake in 'staging sit-down protests in the CBD.

Haven't you posted this before on another thread?

Jabir posts up quite a lot of stuff that looks photoshopped. This is a case in point.

The lettering looks too sharp to be genuine.

Look how clear it is compared to everything else in the photo which is overexposed.

Being a vegan seems like a full time job, avoiding every trace of animal product not just in your food, but clothing and every other facet of your life.. Would probably drive me nuts maintaining this philosophy, especially in Thailand.

May well be photoshopped, Dill is probably best positioned to judge that; but so what either way?

It's the intended humour in the message, not the choice of font or colour or some itchy need to deliberate why it's on a poster on a public sidewalk and not scrawled on the window.

Then after you get over being infected with the humour, on a real bad day you could start a thread on font and colour choice; I think pastels are best for vegans.

Extreme by their dogmatic and political practices.
    It's less a lifestyle than a crusade.
Most apparent by those particular Western fashionable vegan types.
