I guess Isan isn't big on lawns. The gf gives me the 'mad farang' exasperated look every time I talk about turning some of our jungle into lawn. The local philosophy seems to be: If you can't eat it, why plant it?
Mate, we've not decided. It's bare earth at the moment, flat as it needs to be and I'm tempted to wait awhile and get the old fellow to come and give it a strim which he does extremely slowly and extremely well for 300 Thb.

Once there's a bit of growth I'll look at a decent mower. From what I've seen Honda is at the top of the rank and Briggs and Stratton a close second. Not cheap though. What has intrigued me is the Greenworks battery mower youtube them and you'll see why they're of interest. We have a couple of their 24 volt hedge cutters and they couldn't be better. They do mowers up to about 80 and the reviews are good.

Definitely waste some time on Lazada but also got to the Honda site. They have a Honda mower site, with all their best kit, but, once again it's money.

    Point to note.....

As various members have mentioned, The fact that it says Honda or Briggs and Stratton on the label can mean "F" all.

Thanks. I am in the same position, a plot of bare earth. A rock hard mirror in the sunshine and a mudbath for the dogs when it rains.
If I make a small area of lawn to the front then I'll only need a small mower. If I grass over a larger area, which will otherwise become jungle, then I am going to need a bigger machine. Decisions yet to be made.
Locally, Global House and Thai Watsadu have mowers up to B17K with brands I have never seen and which certainly don't appeal. I shall look as you suggest.

As others have said, I reckon a petrol Honda is the way to go. Our one lasted nearly 10 years, was rear wheel drive and would just drag you along. I think we paid around 17,000 for it in 2007 so I guess they cost a bit more now. It could be a right b*****d to start, but my daughter was always gonna learn those words at some point anyway.

One thing I would say... NEVER lend your mower to anyone. Every single time it'll come back with an empty tank and needing oil, the blade will look as though it's been mowing concrete and parts will have been changed for no apparent reason, or worse still, will just be missing.

It finally gave up on me about three years ago and I've been meaning to replace it... but let's face it, when your lawn looks like ours a strimmer will suffice. I don't want to spoil the gardener too much.

    Yogi is a digger, unfortunately.

Or buy expensive battery operated and buy a replacement expensive battery 4 years down the line - i just don't get the whole battery operated thing, aside from not being tied to a cord.

Not being tied to a cord is the whole thing, the whole difference and there's nothing else to it.
