PPE only works when personnel are properly trained in its use and follow the correct procedure. However, that being said - I do feel safer in a Mall full of Asian face mask wearers - using bare faced shoppers as my comparative yardstick.

Given your habits at the breakfast table I'd have thought it would be the least of your worries.

Admirable effort LT. However the fact that an airtight seal is required precludes those who wear beards.
Surely the best area of the body to achieve a good mask fit for most body types is around the neck - it's round (ish), and should be easy to seal. God knows how many times I've nearly asphyxiated myself when endulging in auto-erot...... er .... when a plastic bag accidentally got stuck over my head and was taped round my neck.... (while hanging in the wardrobe...).

I'm not disputing the possibility of fomite transmission, but the majority from what I have read is direct contact or respiratory droplets which, depending on size can spread more than four feet, and if coughing or sneezing, further.

That is the basic premise behind social distancing and masks.

I wash my hands like the rest of them, frequently, and whenever I get home from anywhere where other people have been.

Good luck with the mask development LT.

I am not sure that you will have a ready to go mask in time for the human race to reap the benefits.

On the upside, by the time Covid 47 comes around I am sure you will be all set to go.

    Thanks mate.

Thankfully I have great support and the company that will produce the mask is already doing medical product production.

One really interesting part of this process is investigating the range of mask filter materials and for different applications.

This project obviously will be extremely difficult but we will give it our best shot.

I totally agree with you. I believe that is what is happening. Many businesses are starting to test people for fever before they enter and ask them questions. .. also and people are wearing masks in grocery stores or where there is a lot of people. I ordered masks online as they are impossible to find in the stores.

I think it is going to be a race to see who can develop the vaccine the fastest.
I just read the the Ontario premier is putting billions of money into trying to develop a vaccine here in Ontario, but I'd think that this should be a global effort as opposed to who can develop it first?

We can hope and prey that a vaccine will be developed in the near future but I fear not before the world suffers an economic or more sinister a social melt down.

The immediate attempt in trying to curb the spread of the disease may be working but most experts in the field predict a second faze when the lock down is lifted.

I certainly will continue to wear a mask when in public places but just wish I had a better performing and more comfortable reusable mask option when the time comes.

While I personally believe that your ideas and contributions are admirable, the fact is that mask wearers are preventing themselves from infecting others.
Mask wearing and hand washing are sensible precautions, but inconsistent and based on individual interpretations of the standards required to be effective. It is at best, a sticking plaster, at worst, a psychological comfort blanket.

Given the number and weight of scientific opinions, not all of them can be right in every case. Slavish adherence to one principal could be the correct approach, or not. Who knows?

At least LT is making a positive effort to do something that could prove worthwhile. I have my doubt about its efficacy.

    Thanks for your contribution Chas.

My main line of thinking behind this new mask design is a total escape from how present masks function today.

This mask, I hope I can get to function lik a dynamic human organ that fits like an extra skin layer on to the face.

I cannot say to much about how it will work but based upon what I have done in the past with other products I possibly can achieve success.
