Be interested to know if any members have lived in China over the last 6 months and if you have been there over the covid 19 how organised where the authorities dealing with the lockdown.

Just asking as reading this guys article its interesting to see what other expats living in China,have a different view to China that we are led to believe by the media.

Markets like that exist in Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Burma, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Phillipines. Pretty much every Asian country. You dont need to read about it on Linkedin to learn that....

They don't all sell live animals either. In fact in my smallish South China city none of them do as far as I'm aware.
The produce is much fresher and cheaper than the supermarkets.

The Chinese government were very decisive when it became apparent that they were unable to contain the virus within Wuhan.

The whole country went into lockdown. Every housing complex had temperature checks. The supermarkets were open but, again, temperature checks, QR code scans and hand sanitiser each time you went in. The overwhelming majority of people stayed inside for at least 2 months. As others have said, there are wet markets all over Asia so this can't be purely dismissed as a Chinese problem.

The approach taken by "liberal" Western nations has proven disastrous by comparison.

Mass mobilisations save lives. It's not much use to you having rights if you are dead tc.

No, it is a global problem caused by the Chinese, as was SARS.

That 'fact check' is one person's opinion piece - it's interesting in many ways, but far far from facts.

China has a problem with hygiene/viruses originating there, especially jumping/mutating from animals to people. It's not alone in this issue, and other countries have their own issues too..., but to attempt to deny this history, including recent and current history, is silly - China has a problem that needs addressing. This problem caused this pandemic, the SARS pandemic, and more in the future if nothing is done about it.

On the flip-side, mass mobilisation, mass emergency orders, etc are not a product of Communist China alone. Korea and Japan have a history of such behaviour, it's an East Asian trait which also links to politics. There is zero communism or state oppression in Korea (well, no more than any western democracy), yet they followed similar tactics to China where prudent in dealing with this pandemic.

China was an utter shitehole when I visited 20 years ago, I wouldn't eat from any market or most restaurants, but China has developed a lot in that time and continues to. More work to do on the markets though...

As previously posted. All our village and local city markets, here in Trat and Chanthaburi,Thailand, sell live fish prawns and crabs. I don't think Tesco do.
