Two examples of Mola layered fabric art acquired during my travels in Central America in the early 70s. These two pieces are from the Kuna indians of Panama..

I got this one in Laos at a street market. I loved the colors it’s painted on wood.

My weird primitive woodcarving. Purchased on Sulawesi though they said it came from one of the islands off West Papua.

Was having a Spring clean yesterday and found a suitcase full of pictures I'd not seen for several years, I packed them away again in bubble wrap with a letter to the kids saying this is your inheritance ...
    A few examples..

Our family lived in E.Africa a long time back and we have something very similar in Ebony, it’s a weird little man sat crouching just like that but with a tribal mask on, and a spear or two! Wonder why they travelled so far over the Indian Ocean?!

...if it's not too personal a question: where in E. Africa? Are you familiar with Makonde ebony wood carving?

    ^^ Knowsitlike and Misskit:
They look a bit like two of the three wise monkeys: Speak no evil (hand near the mouth), hear no evil (hand near the ears) and the third "see no evil" missing.

^ not personal at all as it is 35 odd years ago now! We lived in Dar and we have quite a few carvings in Ebony, the stacked family trees and the like do they count? @Nev they remind me of Ubud monkey forest but the thing we have is more like a little gremlin with some definite voodoo vibes he’s certainly not cute

I bought this years ago at some place that imported stuff from Asia I think this is from Indonesia.
The piece of wood is interesting.

...thanks...I bought a number of Makonde ebony carvings after traveling through Tanzania and ending up in Dar (1970s)...the wood is still beautiful after all these years...

Any ideas about this one ? There's what's probably a sword missing from the top left hand.
Material is bronze / gun metal.
