    Covid latest rumour - lockdown

So - the current rumour going around is that there will be a complete 24 hour quarantine starting on Friday 10th, and lasting one week. The aim will be to completely block people travelling back over the weekend for Songkran.

Government is apparently denying - so quite likely.

Last few days to stock people, just on the chance.

I heard from an informed source that central government has instrcted all departments to make a contingency plan for a 24/7 lockdown.
    Just a 'contingency" ...

Good luck with that - a lot of places have stopped selling booze.

A lot of people were out shopping in the local town yesterday. I have never seen the small Tesco quite so full, with only 2 farangs in the shop and the rest locals. Lockdown is rumoured to be imminent. We are on war rations...eat a meal and freeze two for later.

This was 'mooted' by some Thai Govt spastic yesterday, probably just gauging reaction / levels of outrage from the usual social media channels.

Hopefully, they have since gleaned that things like electricity, running water, and erm, food might be affected by nailing the whole fucking country down.

I am pretty ok if there is a complete lockdown - presumably except for essential workers (although how they would be defined I have no idea).

I am amazingly pissed of today. My son is doing his uni admission, and as part of it he needs to upload a photo of himself, wearing the correct student tie -and infront of a blue background.

So - a few days ago he went into the Uni to get the tie. Shop closed. Directions to an on line site. Placed an order a few days ago - today got notified that because of covid all deliveries were stopping - and in place, students could put a (new) order on line and after payment go collect it in person. Now, because of the requirement for a fucking BLUE background he is off to the local photographer to get a picture taken. So, here is us trying to self isolate and the muppets have him running all over town to fit criteria that could easily have been waved in light of the fucking pandemic.

I live almost in the centre of greater Pattaya and busy on the road with 100% people wearing masks.

Still heaps of Thai shops selling food and booze can be purchased everywhere.

Siambury's was packed as well and according to their orders to my wife their business must be booming at the moment.

Business here on the Darkside as normal.

It's no rumour. In fact, quite a clever solution.

How else to heed the ban of Songraan travelling? Instead of 20 million on the road, just 1 million? It would be better for the situation?

Agree AO. Its definitely day by day.

As for the lock down, my wife read same thing but later said it was just bad information that began circulating.

We did go shopping today for some supplies and notice stores quite crowded and some shelves looking thin.

A 24 hour shutdown for the songkran days makes sense.

It would also probably be better than what SK usually is.

I thought Songran was cancelled this year. At least in Sakon Nakhon, it will be a very dry time...no-one has any booze.

Exactly what I was thinking together with the blue background. Maybe remove a few zits if he was like me in the day.

A 24hr curfew could soon turn ugly; I can only speak for what little I've seen in Pty, but certainly also around the country there are many people at various stages of being marooned, broke, homeless, soon to be very hungry and desperate, and realising that the one group of people nobody should be forced to rely on to care for their interests is Thai elites.

If our glorious leaders impose a 24/7 curfew, it's likely to be haphazard and without considered and properly executed food distribution and other services, in which case bad things could quickly escalate.
