    A piece of cake

The idea of cake being “easy” originated in the 1870's when cakes were given out as prizes for winning competitions. In particular, there was a tradition in the US slavery states where slaves would circle around a cake at a gathering. The most “graceful” pair would win the cake the in middle.

My nan used to say that eating apple pips will make worms grow out of your ears...but I can't find the origin to that

    cold feet ?

Apprehension or doubt strong enough to prevent a planned course of action. A loss or lack of courage or confidence; an onset of uncertainty or fear. To “have cold feet” is to be too fearful to undertake or complete an action. A wave of timidity or fearfulness.

    As bald as a coot

Coots are water birds whose heads have the appearance of baldness. This doesn't refer to the lack of feathers on the bird's head, but to their white markings. 'Bald' has several meanings, one of which is 'streaked or marked with white'. That's the meaning here, as in 'piebald', used to describe the black and white markings of a horse or other animal

    Walking on pins and needles
Feeling uncomfortable and/or fearful in a certain environment or around a particular person. When you literally picture walking on pins and needles you kind of know that is going to hurt! People use this phrase when talking about dealing with an abusive spouse, a difficult boss, etc.

    One for Mr Dillinger ...

    Quit "Cold Turkey"?

"It may be that the original cold turkey was a combination of cold ("straightforward, matter-of-fact") and the earlier talk turkey, which dates back to the early 1800s and refers to speaking plainly. "

"Didn't trouble the scorer" ... made little impact on the outcome or achieved less then what was expected.

    On indulgence ...

Not to be confused with "didn't measure up" and not referring to anyone of this Board

So, England need 7 runs to win the test match.

The spin bowler arrives at the pitch, faces 1 ball, blocks and the strike is rotated to the other batsman who hits the winning runs in the subsequent over.

The spin bowler "didn't trouble the scorer" but, by being last drop, kept their wicket intact had an impact on the game, but "didn't trouble the scorer"

    ---

cyrille, your correction "didn't measure up"

The whole contention that someone who is out first ball makes no work for the scorer is, of course, completely erroneous.

I was going to c+p this but it's way too boring, even for me.
