6 year olds being ziptied and arrested by police for misbehaving in class.

Since when has this kinda thing been happening?

Six-year-old girl arrested at Florida school - BBC News

    6 year old girl.
    Arrested by police.
    Ziptied.
Led out to the police car and taken away (to home or the police station?)

    For misbehaving in class.

Police bodycam footage released on 25 February has captured the moment a visibly distressed child was arrested at her school in Orlando, Florida in September 2019.

The six-year-old girl was restrained with zip ties and escorted to a waiting police car after misbehaving in class.
    WTF is that all about?

Yes I saw that footage. Kid needed love and understanding not what that prick did to her. If it was my daughter that pig would be looking over his shoulder for a long time, cos he would never feel safe.

It's pretty safe to say that the 120kg man didn't need to restrain the little crying 6 year old girl with zipties ("If she was bigger, I'd use handcuffs") while arresting her and leading her out to the cop car.

The school security guy and policeman should be give 7 days behind bars, fined and lose their jobs.

Let's hope she didn't end up as one of these:

There are at least 2,225 child offenders serving life without parole sentences in U.S prisons for crimes committed before they were age 18, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International said in a new joint report published today.

While many of the child offenders are now adults, 16 percent were between 13 and 15 years old at the time they committed their crimes. An estimated 59 percent were sentenced to life without parole for their first-ever criminal conviction. Forty-two states currently have laws allowing children to receive life without parole sentences.
United States: Thousands of Children Sentenced to Life without Parole | Human Rights Watch

Wonder what % of children sentenced to LWOP are, you know.... negroid.

Nationwide, black youth receive life without parole sentences at a rate estimated to be ten times greater than that of white youth . In some states the ratio is far greater: in California, for example, black youth are 22.5 times more likely to receive a life without parole sentence than white youth.
    That's a surprise.

The United States is one of only a few countries in the world that permit children to be sentenced to LWOP. The Convention on the Rights of the Child, ratified by every country in the world except the United States and Somalia, forbids this practice, and at least 132 countries have rejected the sentence altogether. Thirteen other countries have laws permitting the child LWOP sentence, but, outside of the United States, there are only about 12 young offenders currently serving life sentences with no possibility of parole.

    What a fucked-up place.

    The cop's been fired.

He was rather proud of his record, it seems...

Turner was later fired for violating agency policy.

The first-grader’s family released the footage of the September incident to the public late on Monday.

According to the Orlando police department, a supervisor must first be present to approve the arrest of a child younger than age 12. Turner reportedly did not contact one.

In the clip, he brags about having arrested other minors. and attempts to reassure school officials that the juvenile detention center is not that bad.

He tells administrators he has made more than 6,000 arrests in his career, including of a seven-year-old, for shoplifting. School employees tell him that Kaia is six.

“Now she has broken the record,” Turner replies.

No, she was black, as was the Officer fired as part of her arrest.

Her 'crime', according the USA News Bulletin, was kicking and punching 3 people who worked for the School.

Kinda hoping he does because I'm curious about: a) what "full SP" is; and b) what possible scenario(s) he envisages where cable-tying a 6 yr old kid would be warranted or even necessary

"kicking and punching 3 people who worked for the School" ?

Not defending or attacking anyone and the Security Guard/Police Officer was sacked ... but if the Girl "kicking and punching 3 people" is it not reasonible to think that she might repeat that action with the Police Officer?

Is the Police Officer, for whom this is a job, not allowed to work safely?
The child has already assaulted 3 other adults.

Maybe it policy that anyone in the back of the Police Car has to restrained?
    Who knows?

Security Guard/Police Officer was sacked because he didn't confirm with his supervising officer before arresting someone under the age of 12.

Is there a history of previous similar behavior by the girl?
    Who knows?

I've got two 6yo boys and would be mortified if they were 'arrested'.

There is more to the story then is revealed here.
Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago ...

Does the age of a child equate to being a recidivate offender?

    ---

Youth crime in Townsville creating tension among business, residents and police

An 11-year-old boy allegedly caught on CCTV trying to rob a takeaway shop owner at knifepoint had been granted bail 10 times in recent months, Townsville police say.

    Key points:
    • Police say an 11-year-old boy had been charged with 57 offences since October last year in a pattern of "escalating" offending
    • Police and residents say they're frustrated by juveniles being released on bail, and want tougher penalties
    • A CQ University academic says young people need to be involved in work, and engage with their community and elders

A senior police officer revealed the child, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had been charged with 57 offences since October last year in a pattern of "escalating" offending.
Police had repeatedly opposed bail in the Children's Court but the child was released back into the community each time, he said.
The officer said one of the boy's previous offences included holding a person to ransom with a screwdriver.

Wouldn't you say that six years old and even eleven years old are rather different things in terms of how to deal with them?

And is Greta too young at 17 years old to be taken seriously, yet at 6 she could have been old enough to be considered mad, bad and dangerous to know?

    Agreed re the punishment.

but what does Greta have to do with it?

Note that the 6yo cried for her Grandmother and not her Parents.

    Mitigating factor?
