Thread: How has Coronavirus affected you ?

^^ Interesting, I thought it was being controlled more tightly in Isaan. Wife has friends in Khon Kaen who want to travel home but are too worried.

Anyone travelling home to the village from Bangkok are made to live on the farm here. Their relatives leave them food, keeping their distance. Too many old folk in the village to take chances.

I have finished my 14 day isolation but only close family come to the house.

Don't disagree with you Norton, however there needs to be some perspective. My wife and I are isolating as much as possible, in particular getting deliveries instead of going out shopping. This particular thread is a mix of anecdotal skits that typify our current days. There is plenty of doom and gĺoom on offer, though my personal preference is for some light hearted and innocuous banter. Whether that be choice of wine or the best method of depilation of chests or groin, the best place to get vegetables in Manilla, is immaterial.

Threads such as this are an outlet, a chance to share snapshots of day to maybe mundane life, but if they can raisd some smiles or reflection that maybe life isn't so bad, that works for me.

Not much can these days, it seems COVID has hit hard. Also the Straits Settlements are a distant memory

^ I ain’t read any of this thread to be fair, but this situation is affecting everyone; big, small, thick, thin, strong, weak, rich, poor, black, white you name it.. it’s a leveller and a reminder that we all stand and are reliant on Earth and on each other’s shoulders, in that and under the pain, lies a lot of solutions and finally there will be positivity, it will take while more but I reckon we will get there #gettingphilosophical

We had a bottle of this with some roast beef a few weeks ago and it was perfect.

KIL, there is a glimpse into social humanity, people are suddenly polite and have manners again (in the main), i remember those when young and they still exist outside cities (villages) - i hope like you this is some reset button but i fear its fleeting.

Indeed. Notification was made just before 9 pm last night so as the curfew kicks in at 10 pm, folks had an hour to get stocks. Personally it won't have an effect as the fridges were replenished a few days ago.

Covid-19 deaths in NZ just jumped from one to four in a day. Quite a low number, of course, but with well over 1200 infected it could get much worse.

Yet still people are trying to drive to their Easter get-aways and when stopped plead ignorance about the rules set in place to NOT LEAVE YOUR AREA.
Problem is that they - if caught - get a hand-slap and a 'please don't do it again'. Enforcement is quite weak here as people's decency and civic-mindedness is relied up. Usually that's a good thing and Kiwis are generally a good bunch, but this stuff is bringing out the ratbag in people

Well, it just gets better and better.

Pattaya's beaches are pretty much deserted and mine here at Wongamat Bay has not seen more than around 50 farang walking the length of it all day.

But it's now closed with a sign that says all activities on the beach must cease on pain of a year in prison or 100,000 baht fine, or both. So, access to the sea from our condos, a mere 50 paces when the tide is in, is denied. We were denied access to our swimming pool last week and all our garden furniture was removed and stacked away covered in tarpaulins.

It was 33c with 70% humidity today.

As we all know the ridiculous decision to seal off Pattaya collapsed into chaotic mayhem because no-one had the foresight to anticipate the traffic jams it would generate as tens of thousands commuters, workers, residents and transit travellers were caught up in the roadblocks.

So in order to save face what have they done? Yep, it's all those dirty farangs' fault ( Banglamung chief has observed all the new infected are farang ) that the disease is spreading and the leaders of what passes for the Thai community have decided that the rump of them, 2,500 assorted residents and those trapped by no air travel availability, are the main targets and handily live within a square mile of Beach Road/Second Road., Pattaya Tai and Pattaya Nua. So they have set up road blocks around this ghetto to "test" those entering and emerging from it.

God how I loathe them.

Apparently 7 Africans have tested positive. Where I don't know, not this city.
My two south African friends in quarantine both tested negative in the last couple of days. Neither has left the city since the beginning.

Chonburi-

The Chonburi Governor has released an order tonight stating that all alcohol sales are banned until April 30th in Chonburi province, which includes Pattaya.

The order also includes drinking outside which is firmly against the law in any outside locations.

Additionally, it also bans supply shops and transportation of alcohol in the province during the dates to avoid smaller shops or individuals attempting to sell out of normal license procedures.

This is designed to encourage social distancing and stop people from gathering for Songkran or in public areas.

Being caught breaking these rules, including having a drink outside, can result in fines of up to 100,000 baht and up to 2 years in jail under the emergency decree in place to stop Covid19. The order is effective immediately.

Pattaya-

The Provincial Water Authority has warned Pattaya and Chonburi residents to conserve water at this time as due to lack of rain and an ongoing drought the Chak Nok reservoir currently sits at roughly 5 percent of capacity.

Local residents have contacted The Pattaya News over the past week complaining about lack of water or water pressure and asking what the issue is overall.


Unfortunately, with the current condition of the Chak Nok reservoir and the Mapprachan Lake reservoir not being substantially better temporary water outages are unavoidable in some areas.

As a result the Provincial Water Authority has asked people to be prepared for temporary outages over the next several days and keep a supply of three to four days of water.


The overall water supply in the Chonburi area is still expected to last until June, however, rain is badly needed to resolve some of the drought issues.

With the postponement of the Songkran water festival this year due to the Covid19 crisis, however, it is hoped this will help conserve some of the already low water levels.

The son of a resident in a care home at the centre of a Covid-19 outbreak has described his terror that his mum will contract the virus.

A senior member of staff at Owen Mor Care Centre in Londonderry told the man on Friday there were six positive cases of coronavirus in the home and it is understood a number of staff are now self-isolating

Now the son of a dementia patient living at the home has hit out at the lack of information he has received about his mother, claiming he has been unable to speak to anyone at the home since Friday.

People over 70 and elderly people with pre-existing health conditions are considered more at risk if they contract coronavirus.

As a result, care homes across Northern Ireland have banned visitors to their premises in a bid to protect residents - meaning families are relying on staff to keep them updated on their loved ones.

However, the son of a resident at Owen Mor Care Centre, which is registered to provide care to 81 people with a range of needs, including dementia and learning disabilities, has hit out after being left in the dark over his mum's condition.

"Someone got in touch with me last Wednesday and said they didn't want to scare me, but they'd heard there were people at Owen Mor who had coronavirus," he said.

"Then she phoned on Thursday and said she's heard there were six cases.

"At this stage I still hadn't heard anything from the home and I spent all day Friday ringing to try and find out what was going on but I couldn't get any answer.

"Eventually I went down and waited outside and a senior nurse came out and told me there were six cases.

"She said my mum was okay and the six people with the virus are in a different unit, but she wasn't able to tell me what the home is doing to stop it spreading

"I'm worried because even though it's in another unit, you just have to walk through a door and the staff move from unit to unit.

"I finally got a phone call from the home at 8pm that night to tell me about the outbreak but I haven't heard anything since and I haven't been able to get through to them either.

"I understand that they are flat to the mat at the moment, but we aren't allowed in to see our loved ones and the only way we can find out what is happening is if someone tells us what's happening.

"All it would take is a one minute phone call every day just to say she is all right, but we've heard nothing from the trust or the social worker and only had one call from the home.

"It's very distressing."

The home did not comment, while a spokeswoman from the Western Health and Social Care Trust said: "The Western Trust continues to work closely with Owen Mor Private Nursing Home. At present we are providing enhanced support and guidance to the management and staff of Owen Mor in relation to Covid-19."

The Trust did not give any further information on the support that has been put in place or the information it has been providing to the families.

My Granddaughter Rebecca who is a Nurse in this home has tested positive for Covid-19 , she has a high temperature but feels ok , off work now and has to take her temperature every so often , isolated now with her Brother and Mother .

The new order to wash your hands for 20 seconds after you touch anything.

It's obviously quite a change from the cultural policy of don't bother washing your hands after you pick your nose and take a dump. Water levels are bound to be surprised.
