@Topper - same here, no public transport whatsoever. If you're on motorbike, only 1 person is allowed, no passenger. Unless it's an emergency - maybe the police will allow it.

Around your gated village, it's prolly OK to be without your pass. But if venturing in the main streets, don't leave home without it! Wear your mask too, or ppl will frown at you. I hope in your next grocery run, you buy more stuff - enough for the next 20 days, bcos things might get tougher there, as it was here. For sure, there will be ppl who violate the quarantine & the rules get stricter. Make your own bread, pasta, marinated meats, etc - if you can. If you have a rice cooker, there are many rice cooker baking recipes. I tried those by "Life of Pang" on YouTube.

In the supermarket here, your temperature is checked and you should be masked. The guard sprays alcohol on your hands before you take a cart/ basket. Distancing in checkout counter. Limited number of ppl allowed to enter the supermarket.

Re: mask, I don't see the issue over wearing it. Wearing it will prevent your droplets from contaminating others (or surfaces), and vice versa. If you don't have the surgical or N95 masks bcos they're in short supply or reserved for health workers, then use the cloth ones. Line it with tissue paper & change it often. Wash the masks in hot/ warm water.

I'm with Bettyboo on this. SG, HK, Korea, Taiwan - they were able to control the spread of the virus, through efforts of the govt, but also with cooperation of the ppl - including wearing of masks.

    My 2 peso cents.

    Stay safe & sane, everyone!

I've got a couple of cloth masks. Asking for trouble going into a supermarket without one, if they even let you. Not to mention the checkpoints on Suk and bang na trat.

Still, it's nice to be given some space.

There's a 15 person limit in my local Tesco Express which they've made very complicated considering they've probably never had more than 15 people in there at a time.

As six residents test positive in Northern Ireland care home, worried son tells of fear that mum may catch coronavirus

The son of a resident in a care home at the centre of a Covid-19 outbreak has described his terror that his mum will contract the virus

    By Lisa Smyth

    March 30 2020 06:02 AM

The son of a resident in a care home at the centre of a Covid-19 outbreak has described his terror that his mum will contract the virus.

A senior member of staff at Owen Mor Care Centre in Londonderry told the man on Friday there were six positive cases of coronavirus in the home and it is understood a number of staff are now self-isolating

Now the son of a dementia patient living at the home has hit out at the lack of information he has received about his mother, claiming he has been unable to speak to anyone at the home since Friday.

People over 70 and elderly people with pre-existing health conditions are considered more at risk if they contract coronavirus.

As a result, care homes across Northern Ireland have banned visitors to their premises in a bid to protect residents - meaning families are relying on staff to keep them updated on their loved ones.

However, the son of a resident at Owen Mor Care Centre, which is registered to provide care to 81 people with a range of needs, including dementia and learning disabilities, has hit out after being left in the dark over his mum's condition.

"Someone got in touch with me last Wednesday and said they didn't want to scare me, but they'd heard there were people at Owen Mor who had coronavirus," he said.

"Then she phoned on Thursday and said she's heard there were six cases.

"At this stage I still hadn't heard anything from the home and I spent all day Friday ringing to try and find out what was going on but I couldn't get any answer.

"Eventually I went down and waited outside and a senior nurse came out and told me there were six cases.

"She said my mum was okay and the six people with the virus are in a different unit, but she wasn't able to tell me what the home is doing to stop it spreading

"I'm worried because even though it's in another unit, you just have to walk through a door and the staff move from unit to unit.

"I finally got a phone call from the home at 8pm that night to tell me about the outbreak but I haven't heard anything since and I haven't been able to get through to them either.

"I understand that they are flat to the mat at the moment, but we aren't allowed in to see our loved ones and the only way we can find out what is happening is if someone tells us what's happening.

"All it would take is a one minute phone call every day just to say she is all right, but we've heard nothing from the trust or the social worker and only had one call from the home.

    "It's very distressing."

The home did not comment, while a spokeswoman from the Western Health and Social Care Trust said: "The Western Trust continues to work closely with Owen Mor Private Nursing Home. At present we are providing enhanced support and guidance to the management and staff of Owen Mor in relation to Covid-19."

The Trust did not give any further information on the support that has been put in place or the information it has been providing to the families.

It's gonna put a lot of robbing bastard care homes out of business .

Those care homes are more protected than the Crown Jewels.
£1000 a week for a jam sandwich and all day in front of the television in a piss stained armchair.

I bet there's a few relatives out there praying for a windfall...

    Positives

    1. Getting a lot of rest and reduced tension.
    2. Cut down on alcohol consumption.
    3. Cut down on smoking..
    4. Eating better and put on 5 kgs which I needed.
    5. The wife's business is doing very well regarding ready made meal sales.
    6. Most importantly all the kids are at home at the same time which is nice.
    7. Getting quite experienced with internet conference calls now.

    Negatives:

    1. Watching CNN depresses me.
    2. Obviously concerned that my family and friends remain safe and well.

Apart from that everything is sweet.

Most of the day outside . . . unfortunately that encompasses garden work, swimming pool maintenance, mushroom picking, lots of walking in the adjoining park etc....

I've taken up prayer...but somewhat hindered by not knowing the God who oversees True internet and television services. If they went down now would be somewhat disturbed. Thankfully the ten wheel trucks that have pulled down the f/o cable three times this year seemed to have stopped carting dirt out of the valley in the property opposite us.

Hua Hin Immigration bedlam causes timeline of despair.

With the chaos caused by the Covid-19 coronavirus outbreak in Thailand – visa horrors, cancelled flights, sealed borders – many tourists and expats alike are feeling the pain. The situation is clearly just as difficult for many immigration offices and officials struggling with a dynamic and congested situation, and panicked customers. We salute the officers that are doing their best at this time to sort out the visa needs of most visitors. But one intrepid resident in Hua Hin has chronicled his trials and tribulations to The Thaiger in what we’re calling the Timeline of Despair.

(The words are directly from notes sent to The Thaiger and include his personal opinions)

    Day One 12:03pm
I’m (age hidden) and have lived and worked in Thailand for over 15 years. I’m between jobs at the moment and about to start studying Thai whilst on a break here. After waiting 3 hours to be seen I was refused a visa because I didn’t have photos of the house I am living in. The lady who checked documents downstairs when I arrived said they might let me email them but the lady who just saw me said she can’t check her email.

    Day One 12:04pm
F@#king ridiculous esp when Phuket and some other immigration ask for nothing apart from the embassy letter. There’s no consistency.

    Day One 12:15pm
FYI I met a family of four (couple with two very young children) who were there for the third day in a row before each day immigration introduced a new requirement. They were having to pay overstay fines each day! Immigration are putting people’s lives at risk unnecessarily.

    Day One 12:17pm
I drove one and half hours here so now got to go home make those crazy photos and come back tomorrow again. I had all the other documents they asked for just in case I had to register (other documents) or whatever it is.

    Day Two 10:45am
I came back to Hua Hin immigration today after being rejected yesterday due to not having photos of the house. Now they want even more documents including utility bills (but at least this time they said I can email them)! They only give 20 days by the way. I have to come back to immigration in 20 days to extend by a further 10 days! All because of covid-19! OMG… And it took over 2 hours to be seen despite being early in the blue queue! Amazing!

    Day Two 10:49am
They have asked for the owner’s death certificate too as the house owner died.

Whatever bureaucratic quagmire you might be wading through at the moment, The Thaiger certainly hopes it isn’t as bad as this poor bloke’s, and wishes you the very best of luck!

MORE PAPERS REQUIRED FOR VISA EXTENSIONS DUE TO ‘NATIONAL SECURITY’

Nine separate documents are now required for foreigners stranded in Thailand to extend their stay for up to 30 days, the immigration said Thursday.

Immigration spokesman Phakkhaphong Saiubon defended the inconvenience on the grounds of “national security.” New requirements include land deeds, rent contracts, and even selfies of foreigners with their accommodations, even as scenes of disarray and massive queues at immigration continue unabated.

“Indeed, we are requiring more documents than usual because there are those who want to exploit the opportunity,” Col. Phakkhaphong said. “We are doing our best to provide the best service, but bearing in mind that national security is our utmost priority.”

The new regulation was brought to public attention in a photo posted yesterday by travel blogger and longtime British expat Richard Barrow.

Apart from the usual TM7 application, copies of their passport, and applicant’s photos, the new rule requires a certificate from their respective embassies, a copy of rent contract, document confirming their stay at the accommodation, a copy of landlord’s ID card and house registration, and a map showing the location of their residence.

The landlord is required to accompany the applicant in person when submitting the documents. The applicant must also take at least four photos with their accommodation to prove their residency.

The spokesman said these new regulations are issued in accordance with the immigration protocols.

Speaking by phone, Col. Phakkhaphong also shot down news reports that the Cabinet has approved automatic visa extensions for foreign tourists.

In fact, the matter “is still being deliberated,” the colonel said.

i would say it is quite unbelievable, but knowing the mindset of the immigration department, the feeling of power that the uniform imparts to them and the utter disregard they have for foreigners, it just seems to be business as usual.

glad i got out when i did, i would have had an immigration visit to do this week had i stayed.
