    Not pot! It's called gardening.
Like going outside, fresh air, moving your ass, shovel, earth, planting, watering, harvesting, having a beer or two.

^ I get that and i do it quite a bit but the pot issue was.....does it survive better in a pot better than in the ground with a hard frost (ice), i.e you can take the pot into a ice sheltered position. Lets not get all WWII about this coz you know you'll lose, once me Mercan mates turn up

Last year I planted my ginger (about 40 kilos) at the beginning of May. I harvested it in October more then 80 kilos. It last me a whole year.

I get it now, so you get the tubers in the ground when it starts to get warm and harvest before it gets cold, i.e its not in the ground in Germany year round - this should really be in the gardening thread. FYI i lived in Germany for 3 years and loved the place and people just hate the EU.

End of Week 2. A little better in the stores now, not so much panic buying anymore, though some things like paper products, canned goods, meats and bread run out quickly. Noticed they are stocking these things twice a day now, instead of just overnight. Grocery stores are also on a hiring binge, need workers desperately to keep up with demand. While I was browsing the veg area yesterday, a guy became agitated because there were no thin plastic bags to put the veggies in. You'd think it was His God-Given Right to have plastic bags the way he was hollering about it. Everybody ignored him.

My two week bonus pay is done, so officially no income coming in at the moment. Gov't passed a generous bill for those on unemployment, as well as a one time $1200 check coming in April sometime. I won't do the Uber Eats for the time being (was a way to kill time in the afternoons); it would interfere with my unemployment eligibility. I would lose money since what I make from Uber is not necessarily what I keep (gas, maintenance). Best to stay home anyway, that's the whole point of waiting out the virus.

Have to see a dermatologist tomorrow, though, hoping no restrictions. No message on their phone service or website saying "Stay Away!" So, here's hoping they see me, because it is somewhat urgent.

14 businesses had their licenses suspended locally because they refused to shut down under governor's orders. Mostly liquor stores.

Some good stuff coming out on Netflix in April. So, there's that.

    The wait continues...

    Quarentine - Day 1

I got up early this morning and went for a walk around the neighborhood. The bakeries and fruit and veg sellers were the only thing open, though it was only 7 am.

To go out of the 'hood you need a quarentine pass. I was talking with another online teacher (Filipino) yesterday and she said it was her impression that it would let me go anywhere in the city. We'll see Wednesday.

Here's what the pass looks like:

If a kindly mod could rotate the pictures, I'd appreciate it. I'm posting from my tablet and I've tried my best to rotate them properly.

An easier solution would be that the few TD members needing this kind of pass read the text on their own pass (or turn their heads sideways).

In truth so far, very little change to our daily routine. Miss the odd bit of socialising with friends, usually over a lunch somewhere or at home, but otherwise little comprehension of the impact in the local 'outside world'. An exception was a required visit to Phuket Immigration last Thursday for my annual visa extension. Reasonably organised with the IO's doing their best to keep people apart. Their difficulty was with 'trapped' tourists wanting to extend their visas, with numbers in the hundreds. 'Normal' long term extensions were pretty much routine, though numbers limited in the applicable office, and 'do not sit here' markers on the chairs to keep people apart.

This is me going through my paperwork.

Most on here will know, from midnight last night, Phuket has virtually isolated itself from the rest of Thailand. Sarasin Bridge, the only road link on or off the island has been closed to all except essential supply transport. Escape by air is the only option, where flights actually exist of course, and I believe the airport is actually going to close from 10th April.

Phuket's Thai population I would hazard a guess as being 80-90% from other provinces, and with substantial numbers of those who have found themselves unemployed in recent days/weeks having had the option of returning to their home province being removed, are in dire straits.

Social media this morning is awash with tales of desperation, no money for food, rent, etc, and large numbers with young children with them. Unless the Government, both at a local and national level, step in with real support for these people, I fear that hysteria and panic is going to result in some ugly situations.

Buffet dinner at Robin Hood, front line staff masked, hand gel on entry and on every table, according to strictures music turns a venue into a bar and subject to closure, but they get away with low volume. Excellent value plate of lamb with trimmings I think around 230 bt.

No shortage at Villa Market, hand gel every few metres on the aisles, they also do face masks at 10bt for 4 with a sign posted for time of the next batch, but apparently run out within minutes each time.

Hooters closed, Hard Rock was open with music spilling onto Beach Road.

Dettol available on Lazada at 3-5x normal price, 750-900bt / ltr.

Unconfirmed rumour that next stage on lockdown might include compulsory masking in public otherwise you're nicked; bib seen queuing at temples praying for this.

We arrived at immigration at 09:50 with usual paperwork and two photocopies of each. Place wasn't very busy, we were seen to straight away. The staff were very friendly, told the wife to sign the photocopies next time before handing them over, especially if the office is busy.

I received my 60-day extension from date of expiry, giving me until 14th June. Cost was B1,900 as others have said, so thanks for the info and help.

We were finished at 10:05, 15 minutes...is that a record?

Excellent service and I'm a very happy bunny today.

Today is my last day of self-isolation. Staying at home and without using air con in house and not using car has been a real help with sore throats. I nearly always get one within a couple of weeks of coming back but not this time. My temperature has ranged from 36.1, when I first arrived from a cool Germany to 37.4 yesterday afternoon. It is back to 36.7 this morning. Jolly hot outside yesterday...
Today, a couple of hours in the car with air con and I can feel throat is dry.

Can't use Tesco Lotus in the village unless one wears a stupid facemask. So looks like I won't be going.

You might like to make 100% sure you know when and where you can be, after dodging pokey in Thailand (thankfully) it'd be a shame to end up in a dog box like other curfew breakers over there. Ano bayan!

Just about everyone in Makro in Korat was wearing a face mask today. We've run out and I wear the same one just for shopping trips... tried to buy a pack in Makro but bizarrely wasn't allowed without showing my passport... which I didn't have.

They don't make things easy at times.

It was the same at Makro surin last week. Thais needed to show their ID card which was swiped through some form of machine. One ID one pack.
My wife queued up 4 times as she had her ID along with those of our 2 youngest plus I was carrying my Thai ID.
Prevents some from hoarding - one pack per person.

We had tried buying some face masks earlier in the week but none were to be found. All places we tried were sold out

There were a couple of women delivering cloth facemasks to every house in the village this morning.

This might be one reason why the Asian countries fare better than others (non-Asia):

Even in the "non-virus" days Asia people are used to wear the face masks, just because of dust, smog, etc.

Not so the non-Asians, they feel shy wearing the mask even in these "virus-days". Often nowadays we can notice in the TV news gatherings of "non-mask" people where they should wear it - queuing at distribution centers, streets, waiting lines, etc...

Everyone is on foot. No taxis, jeepneys or trikes so I won't be going far. This sucks.

As tomorrow is payday and there is exactly one atm in the area, I wonder how thats going to work.

It's the Philippines, things like ATM's working are no certainty at the best of times so expect it to either be offline or out of stock.

That exercise you have been fighting is gonna come real. You have a month or more of this. Hopefully you can start with daily walks. What a time to move eh Tops?
