Finally received my covid-19 test results from LAST SUNDAY . . . negative.

I had to make several phone calls, from the hotline to the DHB to my GP back to the DHB and in the end they finally gave me my results with the explanation

The biggest impact of covid-19, though, has to be being separated from my eldest daughter who goes to Uni in Australia.

Though she was not permitted to work in a hospital anymore, as a med student, she wanted to help and continued midwifery work until it was time to come home.
Then flights were cancelled left, right and centre . . . both the airline and immigration wouldn't let her board a booked flight into NZ as she has no NZ PR nor citizenship - not the first case of this kind

So, she's in Oz still doing her med stuff and a bit scared and lonely . . . but she's doing what she loves and helping as people still have babies, even during covid-19

@topper - AFAIK that pass is just for travel within your barangay (village). In my area, I can't go out of the boundaries of my barangay anymore, even with pass - they've put up checkpoints.

Graceless Fawn has a special pass which allows her to travel, but then she works for the local govt.

In the vlog of "Making It Happen" (Austrian couole) - in the first few days of the quarantine, the police arrested ppl who violated the curfew. A good number of them were foreigners. The vloggers chose to wait it out in Siargao island, than be stuck in their Manila apartment. I don't know if the violaters were released - probably yes, but given a stern warning.

In my area, as mentioned before, the small veg & meat stores were open this past week. I don't know if they're still open now, since we're on total lockdown. There's a Robinson's supermarket which is a 20-min walk away - I think that will still be open, but I won't need to venture there since I have enough manufactured products for 2-3 weeks.

You might have to make do with what's available in your local Savemore. Good luck!

This morning I left the hygenic security of my upstairs area for the first time in a week to assist my wife in her home delivery business.

I noted the following:

1. Most Thai owned food shops and stalls were open for business.

2. All Farang bars and restaurants were closed with I believe some providing take-away and home delivery services.

3. 90% of the Thai's were wearing masks. Even the fugly one's!

4. All the 7/ 11 shops were fully stocked.

Anyway personally this event has been a blessing in disguise for me as I have finally allowed myself to slow down a bit and chill out.

Heaps of sleep and a lot of eating has seen me put on 5 kgs.

No running around super markets buying food for me as my wife has heaps of stock and I love my wife's cooking.

Anyway, whilst I truly believe this event has been blown hugely out of proportion by the global press and most governments are handling things badly as is expected as this is a first for most politicians, I believe the world will be a better place once things return to normality.

In the meantime I will abide by the rules put in place and hope my fellow Teakdoor members take care and remain fit and strong in the future.

He also tells me my sister has caught it, along with her husband. Not unexpected as she is a matron in the NHS and has less protection than the average Thai bargirl...

^ hope they recover Troy. This is the real tragedy of this crisis in the UK, the lack of care and PPE for our frontline staff who get repeated exposure.

Just off the phone to my mum, mid-80s, uk. My brother who lives a few doors away (mid-60s), has her completely isolated. No contact at all. Mum says my brother goes shopping for her. Told her i just did a shop on line, delivery tuesday, she said not possible in uk. Made me think things here not so bad, yet.

She was worried about social unrest. People spitting at health workers, and she said people had taken against the bin men (?????? Wtf??? Chitty any insight there).

We also discussed other relatives in US. My aunt who has a serious degenerative disorder (as yet undiagnosed) had her appointment changed from a day in early april to one in august. My sister is a nurse in US and has to go to work. Her hospital has a severe mask shortage. Originally they wanted not to issue masks to nurses. When, understandably, the nurses said fuck that, they got them issued. One a day.

They will be stacking them high in US, and on balance, all in all, thailand seems the best place for now.

^ I just don't get the mentality of this spitting, coughing and sneezing at what are essential staff to help keep the country running whist most sit at home unable to work but are reliant on these workers to ensure order is maintained - it simply goes beyond moronic. The response to the request for NHS volunteer assistants at over 750,000 was heartwaming and they are now turning to look at volunteers to assist with crop picking and processing and I imagine an equally strong response, we forget farmers sometimes but they are there 24/7/365 ensuring food gets to us.

Lets hopes these idiots are named and shamed.

Mother's early 90's in the USA - fully cognizant, sharp as a tack. Have her in a quality garden apartment across from the front office. Well liked and fully watched over by the staff, maintenance, an elder care attorney and staff, my daughter and my sister - so, no worries. She is well taken care of. Surrendered her drivers license a few years ago so she doesn't drive. Daughter used to take her grocery shopping twice a week. For socialization she would get together with her group of card players for gossip and penny a point card games. That was one month ago.

Today she is under family generated isolation. Daughter does her shopping for her - "tell me what you want and I'll pick it up". Sister set her up with on-line grocery orders - first one ordered three/four days ago - first delivery slot mid-April, extreme increase in volume reported on the basis of Covid.

Talk to her every day or two. Biggest complaint - boredom. On the good side, four of her neighbors knocked on her door and offered any assistance needed, shopping, chauffeuring, etc. So, she is well taken care of - best thing I did was setting her up with an Elder Care Attorney to manage her affairs while I'm over here. Not really needed now but when the time comes for assisted living or nursing home they'll take care of the details. I just have to sign a form or two.

Bu, as far as the Covid Pandemic - the folks living in my old neck of the woods are handling everything quite well. All wish it was over but to all reports I get (attorney, mother, daughter, sister) all is well - they are making the best of the situation. Yup, stores were out-of-stock on toilet paper for a while - and milk, milks a biggie too for panic buying.

But, after the past week/week and a half, things have calmed down. People starting to realize the grim reaper isn't knocking on their door just yet.


Will see how things develop as time goes on.

Been eating a lot of my home grown organic ginger.

Ohh and lots of garlic for taste, health and social distancing.

They have been taking photos and posting online of all the food that was bought when the idiots were panic buying, and now has to be thrown away due of the expiry date.

How British police are tackling coronavirus-related crime

Here in the UK, police have been given new powers designed to help protect themselves and other frontline workers from coronavirus-related attacks.


Anyone in England and Wales who coughs on key workers as a threat amid the crisis have been warned they will face serious criminal charges.


And although very rare, sadly a number of allegations have been reported in the last few days. They include:


One man from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, has been jailed for a year after he was found to have spat at officers while claiming he had coronavirus.


Another man, aged 43, has been charged with assault after a paramedic was allegedly coughed at in the face in Gloucestershire


Two people have been arrested after a woman was allegedly deliberately coughed at in the street in Somerset. Her profession is unknown

I personally believe that these idiots who spit and carry on like imbeciles should be either charged, convicted and fined or jailed or simply denied any services and or medical treatment.
