Back in work this week. The first batch ot students return on Monday. The rest will be back on the 30th.

Restaurants and bars are open....albeit with social distancing restrictions. Most people are still wearing masks even though Yunnan is virtually virus free.

We are hearing stories of foreigners being lifted and questioned by police. The paranoia levels are high now with the (unfounded) expectation that returning foreigners will bring the virus with them. All new arrivals have to do 14 day quarantine at a government designated hotel.

Just heard that the open Thai markets / wet markets are being ordered closed.. If this is true, it will force people to use enclosed A/C supermarkets, and probably create Western-style panic buying and queues / crowds of people.
Vastly benefiting conglomerates like CP (7-11; Tesco, etc), and increasing the spread of the virus. WTF are these people thinking.?

Had to go to the bank this morning, there was a party of 4 (3 bank employees and 1 security) at the door who took great interest in my passport/visa while I washed my hands with the bottle of hand-gel the security guy was toting. Once inside, there was only 1 other customer.

Driving around I do see many empty ponds around here, in rural Thailand, at the moment.

Is there not a "first world" app available, which shows their locations, capacity, current environmental regs and monthly lease rates?

Some pollution of ground water is perfectly acceptable in some "first world" countries and possibly Thailand.

Tax payer's 0% intrest and soon to a minus rate, money can be requested for any "clean-up costs,

If one's passport is taken across a local land border, by a kindly Thai lady. Stamped as visiting in and out of a non closed border country, whilst one remains on the Thai side.

Is one allowed back in, subjected to rigorous questioning, whisked off to a "disinfection" or just stamped back in with smile?

    Asking for a friend.

    Thank you.

So, nothing from KK to KL.

Zero from KL to Auckland . . . arrival at Auckland they ask you to fill in a form. Immigration and customs officers - no masks

    That's it . . . no temp readings . . . just fill out a form

As of today NZ has the no-foreigner in, no-local out policy

My daughter's school is closed and online classes are underway using video links. The littlun's work station is downstairs in the living area... and it's all open plan.

Now, this time of year it's so hot, I'm in the habit of walking around in just my underwear... not any more... once I discovered the teachers and classmates can see me walking about near stark bollock naked. The daughter was well embarrassed.

Have to wear shorts and a shirt now in me own home!

Thailand Immigration Update: De Facto Ban For All Arrivals Who Can’t Produce a 72hr Fresh Medical Certificate & $100k Insurance Coverage

    by
    Sebastian Powell[COLOR=#CBCBCB !important] -

    Mar 19, 20209 Comments

Thailand has updated their entry requirements for foreigners and now demands a medical certificate including a COVID19 test issued max 72 hrs before traveling as well as comprehensive medical insurance for at least US$100k.
This constitutes a de facto ban as Coronavirus tests are hard to come by and even if possible would be very costly, therefore most travelers won’t be able to fulfill this requirement.

Countries are moving the goalpost by the day and sometimes by the hour as far as entry regulations go and this newest update on Thai Immigration policy has been published this evening at 8pm local time.

It appeared in the Bangkok Post this evening and will likely force many travelers to cancel their Thailand trips.

The government will extend the requirement of medical certificates and health insurance to cover all visitors to the country regardless of nationalities to curb the spread of the coronavirus, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said on Thursday.

Thailand reported 60 new coronavirus cases, the biggest daily jump in the number of cases so far to take its total infections to 272, the Public Health Ministry said on Thursday.

Travellers to Thailand have to now show authorities a health certificate, issued no more than 72 hours before travelling, confirming that they have been tested and are free from the virus. They must also present an insurance policy showing minimum coverage for coronavirus of not less than US$100,000.

… “We are blocking infection from coming into the country. That is why people need medical certificates and health insurance to enter Thailand,” Gen Prayut said.
“This will now include all countries to minimise infection so we can control it,” he said.

It is unclear when the new measure will take effect and how it will be enforced at various border points.

Since people cannot get tested for the virus in most places at the moment due to the high costs and shortages of test kits, the requirement is in effect a travel ban although the government stopped short of describing it as such.
“The measure aims to minimise the number of arrivals as much as possible,” said government spokeswoman Narumon Pinyosinwat.

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul also said the measure should discourage foreigners from travelling to Thailand. “We are enforcing strict measures so that it will be very difficult for them to come here.” …

The Health Minister should probably be more worried about the influx of illegal Thai workers that flood back into the country from various countries in Asia such as South Korea and Japan.

Thailand so far has 272 documented cases and 1 death. It’s widely assumed that there is a large grey area though and the cases are actually much higher since the count appears suspiciously low.

Yesterday I wrote about Thailand shutting down bars and entertainment venues for one month.

The requirement of providing a health certificate including a Corona Test not older than 72 hours will be a challenge for many (as it’s probably designed to be). COVID19 tests are mostly reserved for serious cases and not for people who want to go on a trip, getting a medical certificate that legitimately states a negative test will be hard to come by or end up being very expensive.

    Conclusion

I was planning to go to Japan for a few days (which will also implement an immigration restriction starting Saturday) but given these news I decided to stay put in Bangkok at the moment and see where to go in late April.
Hotel rates have been taking a dive this week and it’s likely going down even more. Possibly we’ll see hotel closures like in other countries already.

Well, said conglomerates are part of the power behind the scenes of this dreadful govt, re the elite and their bent power brokering corruption.
Of course they want you in their A/C malls and hypermarkets and not down the local mom'n'pop corner shops and outdoor markets.
How to take over and kill 2 birds with one stone.

    Me personally?
Buggered my planned big visa renewal at the Savannakhet Thai consulate in 3 weeks time.
For the first time in 17 years, i will have to go to the local immigration office in Udon and pay 1900 Baht for a 60 day extension.
And i hate Thai immigration offices.
    With a fucking vengeance.

Closed our homestay to any new bookings for the period now to end April via Booking and Agoda. Will honour the two bookings till then, both Thai folks. If anyone else wants to stay they would have to call the wife and she will vet but hopefully with it being hot, dry, less green and smokey up here the phone will be quiet. Plus she is not too keen to say yes to extra folks atm.

We stocked up a bit over the past week and apart from some drinking water deliveries on a Sunday, there is no need for us to leave the property or others to enter for maybe 5-6 weeks. Could even skip the drinking water deliveries for a couple of weeks if we had to do so.

Did my 90 day report a few days early on Wednesday so no immigration stuff to consider.

Will surf the net, watch TV/cable and potter around the gardens a bit. Provided there is nothing crazy like a stay-at-home type order may also go for a daily (push) bike ride.

    "
The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) announced on Thursday night that the new measure will take effect on Sunday."

Health certificates required of all visitors

"This notification shall be effective from 22 March B.E. 2563 (2020), 00:00 Thailand local time onwards.
    Issued on 19 March B.E. 2563 (2020)
    ."

    Just a moment...

    A previous list, now superseded:

"He said arriving passengers who were in China, Hong Kong, Iran, Italy, Macau or South Korea in the past 14 days will be quarantined. These areas were defined as disease infected zones.

The 11 ongoing local transmission areas are Britain, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan (specific cities), Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States. The Japanese cities are Aichi, Chiba, Hokkaido, Karagawa, Kyoto, Okinawa, Osaka, Tokyo and Wakayama."

Travellers from 15 countries must have Covid-free certificates

The new rules appear to be for airline passengers, but TIT.

    Plan accordingly.

Can't answer your question, but chains are likely to be cleaner than local markets and ma/pop shops, and also likelier to provide masks/gel and temperature checks.
