The Mrs. and I opened a Thai restaurant in my hometown, about five years ago.
Our carry out business has picked up, but I know that’s probably going to change very soon.
I foresee a lot of sleepless nights in my future.

I was informed early this morning that one of the participants from one group had developed flu-like symptoms and won't be attending the meeting . . . so, we'll discuss whether or not to go ahead in an hour.

Filipinos don't have this toilet paper craze. Most ppl use a "tabo" (dipper/ water scooper), plus soap & water. More advanced/ modern homes have the bum gun. So there's still lots of toilet paper on the shelves. However, there was a long queue last Friday at the supermarket. Partly due to covid & Manila lockdown, and partly due to the fact that it was salary weekend & ppl were stockpiling.

Shortage of 70% isopropyl alcohol & face masks. In my hometown, prolly only 25% wearing masks. I shopped in the supermarket Friday evening & in wet market Saturday morning. Still loads of fresh produce in the wet market. Ppl aren't too worried - no sense of general panic. I'll be working from home starting this week - no one knows until when. It's "until further notice".

Pics from Friday evening at my local supermarket.

Two whole shelves of toilet paper!

Well they've just closed the kids school for a couple of days apparently awaiting testing results on someone.

Damned if they do or don't I suppose.

Their initial excitement was quickly dashed when informed they'll still be following lessons today and online teaching is being rolled out if it goes longer than Wed.

    How so?

It's just remote learning... Same students, same teachers. Not like they're going to be charging extra for it.

Read this in the BBC news this morning.

This has suddenly become much more real for me... I have an 84 year-old mother back in Somerset in the UK, a couple of villages away from Nailsea. She goes there for her weekly shop.

I guess a small snapshot of the big picture...

Coronavirus: Nailsea's Nick Matthews dies after positive test

A man aged in his late 50s has died after testing positive for Covid-19, health officials have confirmed.

Nick Matthews, 59, had underlying health conditions and died in the Bristol Royal Infirmary on Saturday.

Well I could handle the stock market crash wiping out a good chunk of my net worth.
I was thinking I could handle being stuck with no overseas travel for the rest of the year.

But now they've gone and postponed Beervana, our biggest beer festival, and a yearly pilgrimage for myself and others. That's just a step too far in my book.
Some people think it don't, but it be.

That's good news about your mum but I'm not seeing the connection?

Flu isn't the same thing (albeit can also be serious for the elderly).

Cancelling the Aus GP seems a tad fukked up.

Surely they could still hold the event without onsite spectators.

It is not like a football match where the presence of the spectators is an essential ingredient of the experience for viewers around the world.

You've not been to a Moto GP or F1 event have you?

Why are they not closing the borders like Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland and Italy?

You are gonna have all the youth, that you can't backhand nowadays, fucking off to Spain soon on Ryanair's cheap flights.

There were crowds of 60,000 a day last week at the Cheltenham festival, with loads of Micks and whatever flying in.

I see Austria are limiting crowd gatherings to 5. A bit of a coont if you have a large family.

That BoJo and his everyone is gonna get it and a lot are gonna die remedy isn't very promising.

What exactly are the UK doing, apart from preparing for the worst, using car factories to build more respirators and preparing hotels to be used as hotels?

Limit crowds, close the pubs, declare a curfew and get the army out there with rubber bullets

The streets have been quiter for a couple of weeks.
I reckon a percentage who have and can been holed up for the duration.

Working from home or just living off savings keeping isolated.

The majority will bear the brunt and there's nothing anyone can do about it apart from take necessary precautions and hope for the best.

I've got neither. Well may be the typical 6 pack of date-loaf in a bathroom cupboard, but that's it

Was at Foodland on Central Patraya Rd earlier, no signs of shortages or panic-buying or whatever, the only way you'd know there's a pandemic on is they have bottles of hand sanitizer everywhere for customers and staff to use.

Its the colder climate countries that it is sweeping through. Ok Australia and Singapore have it but not to the same extent where it flourishes.

In 6 months it should be on a ateep decline I reckon
