I went to Makro in Korat today to pick up some bits and there was a guy at the entrance testing everyone's temperature as they walked through. He was using one of those digital meters aimed at your forehead.

He showed me my reading... 34.5 deg C, so I was hypothermic. I find that hard to believe.

I can't see him detecting many with a fever using this equipment.

I'd rather die than wear a face mask.

Understand the cautionary practice of screening and whatnot, but these activities are seemingly moot as such applies to early detection.
It's been said that this particular rhino [Corona] has a dormant incubation period of some 5-7 days - all the while one can be infected and active carrier without showing any outward/surface signs of pre-illness.

Hence, the the mandated week [or more] quarantine that has been in place everywhere.

Wouldn't surprise me if they make it a criminal offence for farangs to be in public without a mask, but can't see the deportation bit gaining traction, makes more sense to give the bib another earner.

Something like 5k or 4 years, settle for 2k in the bin, times several thousand, it mounts up.

I haven’t read through the previous 6 pages, so excuse me if this has been discussed, but the Mrs. says there is talk of Thailand shutting down border entry/exit. Anyone hear anything like this?

Call me cynical, but I don't believe Thailand called it off. Too much money. I think the racers, crews, journalists called it off and Thailands trying to look like heroes saying it was their call, to keep the nation safe.

Saw a news report that out 350 leased taxis in CM, 100 drivers have returned theirs, being unable to make the monthly payments due to both Grab (no sympathy) and there being no tourists due to Covid19.

Hotels must be absolutely in the shit.

And what if it goes on for another 3.... 6..... 9 months?

The financial fallout will be astronomical.

    On another note,

I wonder if this place that changed from this menu:

Of German style food and beer, to this:

A shitty fokin' buffet for coachloads of Chins, has changed back yet.

    I hope so.

I have been scanned twice today, once at work at a big meeting, and once in BK applying for a visa for the travelling companion*.

Morning one showed 34.6 for me, which seemed strange. I wonder if a sweaty forehead messes with the reading.

There was a vid on Thai FB yesterday showing a gang of motocy taxi riders kicking the living shyte out of a Grab rider.. Dunno if it's CM-based.

Are there even motocy taxis in CM? Let alone Grab Bike.

More likely Bangers or Pattaya I would think. They all went to Pattaya when Bangkok was in the big flood, and lots of them stayed.

In most cases, will always be regarded as Farang.
In a few instances, not so much.

Isn't it de rigueur when utilising the Thai 'O visa', to sit in the Thai no-mans land area and await the visa runner to carry one's passport for stamping to foreign lands and back?

A bit of nostalgia, but SARS was a great time to be in HK. It was so quiet, the streets, restaurants, nightlife areas, taxis, public transport- Nirvana!
The locals were really spooked, but the expats went about life as normal. None of us bothered with masks. Don't know anyone that died, or even contracted bird flu.
Now I'm back in Oz, and jeez- what a nation of ninnies this has become. They're even worried about running out of toilet paper- panic buying. Man up.

To update my earlier post, after lodging the visa application, dropped into Siam paragon. They had a thermal scanner set up pointed at the entrance, and a crew of three manning it. So that was three temp scans in one day for me.

Also musing that the fact that Thais do not shake hands is a positive advantage here.

Got a gift from AIA for years of insurance policies. 4 days 3 nights at Anantara Pool Villas. Mai Khao beach. Was wonderful. All masks through Don Muang and on the flight down. But once there very few wearing the masks. Some staff but no tourists wearing them.

A nice 4 days away and may put up a trip report. Damn villa was 180 square meters and really nice.

Ahhh the beauty of living here with ass washers. TP panic in the US as well

Well the factory has changed its rules again. They now have you enter on one side of the building, you go into a small room where you are infra scanned for temp. Temp exceeding 37.3c you are not allowed into the factory until you have gone to a doctor to get a medical report that you are OK.

They also have a list of countries that customers cannot enter the factory unless they have successfully completed 14 day self quarantine.

The notions of temp scans/pre-scans at any public space is quite insignificant - even though well meant.
Anyone can be an active carrier and not show any such outward signs for days.......as is the characteristic of most viruses of these familial paths.
