Just back from a week skiing in Japan. Managed to survive the masked scourge at Don Muang airport, and when finally arrived at Gotemba had the whole of Mt Fuji to ourselves..

Hoping for a similar epidemic next snow season.

Monty! I love the guy! His antics in the field were brilliant!

Too bad he didn't go further as a spin bowler, but as Warne summed him up "He bowls the same ball over and over" - or something on those lines.

    What was the snow like?

It's been a really warm winter.

From what I have heard, there hasn't been any decent snow besides a big dump yesterday.

Company I work for has forbidden all travel to China, and only wants important trips to SE Asia. It affects me cause my boss was supposed to be gone for two weeks traveling to China!

Plenty of snow near the top of Fuji. They near enough have a 6 month season (Yeti Snow Resort) from November to April.

    ^Hmm.

I've not been affected personally, but I have a few friends in Shanghai who have been posting pics. Normally at Chinese New Year Shanghai is a buzzing, but it was eery like a ghost town. From the pics my friend has posted with her mask on and no one on the streets it is like a ghost town. I'm lucky I got out of China a few years ago, the timing couldn't have been better because right after I left they was the kidnappings of Canadians and the whole Huawei fiasco, then this Coronavirus. Freakin' crazy times we live in.

Since the start of the virus scare, a small community of Chinese are camped out by the Kham river in Luang Prabang. They're staying in camper vans and cars, avoiding the expense of hotels and guesthouses.

This entrepreneur seems to be making an income by generating electricity and selling it back to the Lao electricity company

Most say it was very nice travelling with Cathay Pacific to HK on a half full plane, and then the same from HK to BKK, took me 5 minutes to clear immigration.

Should have more of these virus's going around, though the airlines weren't dropping their prices.

They're sure missing the Chinese here in Oz. For a start, seafood exports- oyster, crayfish, prawn, tuna - have dropped off a cliff. Beef exports have dropped sharply too. As a result, prices are tanking- and people are squealing. Inbound tourist numbers right down too, as well they might be when Australia has banned Chinese entry for now. Wine exports will be hit too- so good old South Australia is hit particularly hard, being the largest exporter of oysters, tuna, crayfish & wine. The education sector (Chinese largest number of foreign students, & 'foreign education is a major Australian export) is hit hard, and they sound a bit panicky.

All good for me as it happens- gonna be some bargains to be had in seafood, and maybe steak. Great time to fly too. Bound to be some travel & accommodation bargains coming up.

As always, winners and losers. But there is no question coronavirus is bad for the worlds economy, especially Asia Pacific, and I hope it doesn't carry on too long. There could be serious financial ramifications.

Óh, and we've found a new use for the old Christmas island illegal refo detention centre- as a quarantine camp. Locals are impressed. An old, abandoned mining camp south of Darwin has also become a quarantine camp. Chinese advocacy / student groups are squealing discrimination.

The Chinese boom has been nothing but the plague for the world, above all when we bet all our economic assets like we did in the last decade on the Chinese economic development

this is a wake up call, and bound to happen, in terms of risk curve tails

time to move back some strategic industries back to our shores instead of selling wines, fake diplomas and cheap hotels

Thanks to all on setting me straight about the photo size

When I jogged past that car at 4.45am this morning, there were blackout cloths over the windows, so clearly someone is sleeping in the vehicle.

I wonder where they take a dump..... (rhetorical question, seeing as they are parked next to the river).

Update: One result of this virus is that the schools are closed, and I'm inundated with requests for my online science lessons. Since I'm already teaching online 6-7 hours every day of the week, I am picking and choosing the students who are most likely to stay for the longer term.

Beats working in KSA I suppose (albeit that the income isn't comparable).

C'mmon which MOD banned the poor guy ? (I suspect the bearded one ). I wasn't always on the same wavelength with him, but he had his points. He also put a lot of time and feelings in his posts.

    Has Coronavirus affected you ?

Yes, took away a good poster from Teakdoor.
After all, this is a forum. And a MOD should keep his profile neurosis to him self.

He got banned from one thread because he was overdoing the waffling, and flounced.

And let's face it, if we only want to read the chinky bullshit, we can go to the China Daily website any time.

If nothing else, he's as boring as shite and fills threads with bollocks when people point it out.

    Maybe he'll learn his lesson.
