How has Coronavirus affected you ?

I have a small guesthouse, recently we have had a rash of cancellations, all apparently due to people being scared of the corona virus.

36 k baht worth of bookings have cancelled in the last two weeks.

I am only a small place and i am wondering how much the big guys are hurting ?

I would imagine everyone is on one way or another.

Malls would be more quiet, travel, restaurants, tourist attractions.

Whats the name of your guesthouse?

Does it have any Chinese connotations or called The Wuhan Inn by chance?

First thoughts are the big guys are hurting but can ride it, while the weenies will roll over the edge with this or any other prolonged drought.

Other than a constant stream of notices from the kids school about precautions etc. and shaking my head over some of the fuckwittery being spread about it all* no, can't say that it really has.

*The latest being a still developing conspiracy theory because Dettol is apparently effective against Human Coronavirus and this fact is somehow being kept from the Sheeple (no doubt by a cadre of International Jewry) despite the fact it says it right there on the bottle and Human Coronavirus and Novel Coronavirus aren't.the.same.fucking.thing.

Yes , it has affected me in a fantastic way and the longer the yellow filth are kept confined to their shit hole the better.

Travelling through KL airport was awesome., no screaming yelling horrible coonters fuking up the place and the airport was serene.

Same with Bali airport and not to mention the feel on the streets have been the same.

The Chinese are a disease on the world and this lock down has really banged that home.

The only people who miss them are the Business owners, every other fuka is rejoicing in happiness.

^Yeah the only people missing the hoards of Chinese are business owners. Everyone else is enjoying the break from them.

I’ll be interested to see how it effects my trip home to DC with a layover in Seoul.

Many Thai companies/farmers/entrepreneurs either export goods to China or import goods from China, all will be feeling pain. One of a family members employer, a prawn farmer, has closed due to lack of demand from his wholesaler, whose export market is.... CHINA.

The whole staff just told to go.

    "Yeah just the "business owners".

As we have seen in the price of rubber, no factories open, = no stock needing replacement, = no orders, = no food on the grower's and crop sharer's tables.

I can see the Durian price cratering from the last couple of years up-ticks in prices, mainly due to improved sales and the ability to transport quicker, to the expanding, market of, CHINESE, newly prosperous, consumers.

If the markets shut, the farmers don't pick, the casual pickers, cutters and labourers don't work and don't eat. The farmers have no "profits", no investing in fertilizer, farm improvements, new tucks ..... they themselves join the hunt for bed and board.

    "Yeah just the "business owners".

China is Thailand's largest export destination (12%) and import (21%) source.

Thailand's Asian imports are 73%, it's Asian Exports are 65%.

No Trade movements, Thailand collapses. Yes that's you as well Felang.

    "Yeah just the "business owners".

    Dickheads.

Does Thailand publish monthly employment numbers, GDP, investment, housing starts, stocks and shares indices movements? If anybody monitors them what are they showing?

The Thai Bhat seems to be on a downward move, due to Chinese/western economic woes?

    Thailand Imports By Country
    Thailand Exports By Country

What % of the Chinese imports does Thailand incorporate into the Thai exports back to China and to other countries?

Everyone else, meaning the still employed expats working in non shuttered companies, the "teachers working in unopened/shuttered schools ..., the development owners not selling/renting condos, ....

Or is it the retirees, whose ATM machine not be topped up, food store may close, it's bar may close, it's electric supply may stop, water, high rise lifts, access to cars in the basement parking be denied, petrol, flights to wherever. no longer available ....

Stuck on a high floor, look at those views, condo. Is that balcony looking more attractive?

No from a personal and the wife's homestay business. In fact we've had no recent cancellations and are still getting bookings in and for February to the extent it may as well be considered a high season month. We hosted several non-Thai couples this year but 90% of our business in domestic Thai travel; folks escaping Bangkok in the main.

    nope !

we are in a small town well off the tourist trail.

i aint seen a Chinese here in 3 years.

we recently had a Canadian couple cancel and they emailed us telling us that their flights were cancelled ?

we mostly have European customers at this time.

we are picking up replacement bookings i just found it odd that so many cancelled in one week.

We have a lot of international students at my uni in Korea. It's a wait and see situation, but the start of next semester has today been put back 2 weeks to see how the virus develops.

Looks like BIP and Moose65 run the same business and have very conflicting stories.

Both are small guesthouses, in the middle of nowhere and are catering to non-Chinese customers.

    This could be location-specific?

BIP is in Nan (northern Thailand), but no idea where Moose65 is.

His bio says 'by the seaside', so I'm guessing a coastal town.

That might be the noticeable difference regarding your place, BIP.
Your sizable percentage of domestic business is quite evident.

I suspect foreign-based hospitality associations might be suffering to a degree or another with this current cautionary scare and everything that goes with it.

Around 3 more weeks of working from home using online teaching methods; I have my doubts about the effectiveness of this for lower primary but it is better than no teaching at all, so must just make do and persevere with the situation. On the up side I have knocked of one more module for this PGCEi and only have one more to go. As for general life in UB, I have noticed that fewer people are wearing masks, so I guess supplies are starting to dwindle.

There's been little to no panic buying in the supermarkets, but bars are closing at midnight and entertainment such as cinemas, museums and theaters are closed.

One appears to be Thai centric, the other "European". Possibly different advertising media, language even just local signage/nightly rates.

I prefer to search on sites, select on requirements and book ahead, my PPPPP. My Thai wife likes to drive around, in the dark, asking local shopkeepers for recommendations, immediate and desperate for a shower, bed and .... or you come out of the shower and find this:
