Many post links to their statements. It reduces misunderstandings. Do you have a link to "the official website of the local govt"?

Have you been successfully treated in a "PI govt community hospital? I presume their are differing types of "hospitals" in "PI"

Some examples of Thai Health Care facillities I have knoledge of:

Have you been treated in a Thai community care "shop", a "Thai govt" community clinic, a "Thai govt" provincial hospital, a "Thai govt" Centre of Excellence hospital?

The different Thai govt "hospitals" are all "fit for their designed purpose" - health care for Thai citizens.

There are also many private hospitals who cater for the more wealthy Thais and most foreign "visitors".

Some of them may, or may not be better or, worse. Having no experience of any "PI govt community hospitals", I understandably, couldn't comment.

There are quite a few Filipinos here in NZ, after India and China the third-largest immigration group by far. Many of them are engineers, nurses, tradesmen etc... (as NZ doesn't have domestic staff and the like) . . . several raised a few hackles here recently by stating that they are living ten in one house (their choice to save money) and only getting NZD500/week support from the government which isn't enough to support their family back in the PIs.

    NZD500 = 15.000 Philippine Pesos

Most Kiwis went 'aaawwwww, poor people', but those with bit of knowledge were 'wtf'?

Anyway, many of these temporary tradespeople stayed on here during the lockdown and are now back working - slowly but surely

Example of covid cases - Quezon city in Metro Manila, which is one of the largest in area & population in Metro Manila/ NCR - National Capital Region

Quezon City coronavirus cases surge past 1,600 | ABS-CBN News

^It's not a govt website, but it was the first search result that came up

I've been treated in 3 different govt hospitals: a university hospital, a town/ community hospital, a large public hospital (several storeys, several buildings - Philippine General Hospital in Taft Avenue, Manila) at different times of my life. In all those places, there were queues. I had to get a number, wait for my turn, etc. Free to consult with doctor, but I had to buy my own meds.

I've also been treated at a private hospital. My dad was hospitalized due to stroke some years ago - we also paid the fees & meds for that. They weren't top tier private hospitals like Makati Med, St Luke's, Medical City, Asian Medical, etc. More of provincial private hospitals. No money = no treatment.

The Philippines has a population of 109+ million and we only have 1,500 ventilators. Think on that.

The OFWs who have gone home are mostly in the service sector - travel, tourism, cruise ships, etc. There are many maritime ppl who are stranded in boarding houses in Manila, waiting to be deployed to the ships (e.g. oil tankers), but they can't leave yet due to the lockdown & the general CV situation worldwide.

A housemaid in Brunei earns ~300 usd (15k pesos). I overheard that while waiting for a flight from Brunei to Manila - this was in 2013. My friends and I went as tourists. On the flight back, there were many OFWs going home for a visit to their families. 300 usd is 3x the salary of what she was getting in the PI. I made a Brunei- Kota Kinabalu thread here - it's one of my older pic threads.

A petrol station attendant earns 8,000 to 10,000 per month (160 to 200 usd). Conversion is ~50 pesos = 1 usd. A housemaid earms 80 - 140 usd/ month, depending on location, or if it's direct hire versus agency. Minimum wage in Manila is ~500 pesos (10 usd) per day, it's lower in the provinces (~8 usd). A construction worker earns ~500 pesos/ 10 usd per day. Those are the D classes. The C classes would earn a bit more.

@panama hat - NZ, Australia & Canada have this skilled worker migration program, so most of the Filipinos that migrate there are skilled workers. They either went there via the govt migration process or went there for work/study, then integrated into the system. I have an ex-colleague who went through the migration process and he's now living in Auckland. Family guy, 2 small kids at the time. He had the points to be a skilled woeker. He went through the process - filed papers, interview in SG, etc. Sold most of his stuff, borrowed money from relatives - just to pay the migration fees. He was able to get a job & brought his family over after a few months. He said they migrated for better quality of life - free healthcare, basic educ for the kids, etc.

I've read that NZ imported some Filipino construction workers to help rebuild Christchurch from the earthquake some years ago. Yeah, Filipinos are similar to the Polish, Eastern Europeans, Indians etc in terms of living conditions. They'll sacrifice & live 10 ppl in a room/ apartment just to be able to send money home. Lots of OFWs in the Middle East living in those conditions - they've even made local movies about it here! E.g. Dubai, Milan, Caregiver (in UK), Hello Love Goodbye (domestic helper in HK) - produced by Star Cinema, a local film company.

There are 2.3M OFWs, 2019 data. Those are the legal ones. Not counting those who have migrated or acquired other citizenship, who also send money to families.

PSA Approves the Conduct of the 2019 Survey on Overseas Filipinos (SOF) | Philippine Statistics Authority

    +++++

Anyway, back to the CV thread - accdg to worldometer, there are 12,513 cases now in PI. IMO that's underestimated because we lack testing.

Vlog by Haley Dasovich. Half-Fil, half-US, grew up in US. Speaks a little Tagalog only. She went through some low income areas in the vid. I think it's a good, fair assessment.

"New Normal" in PI (in English)

Just for fun: movie trailer of Hello Love Goodbye (2019), with English subtitles. It's a film about a Filipina nurse who's working as a domestic helper in HK - stepping stone to get a nurse job in Canada. The guy works as a bartender in HK. Love angle aside, it showed the realities of OFWs in HK (most are domestics or in service industry).

C & D classes are in the low income grp

Two months now and the only one in my section still checking into the cubicle every day. All the others teleskating although two of them come in one day a week. Kinda like it actually. Learning a few new things that I ignored in the past that I’m willing to learn now so the others can stay at home teleskating.

Starting mañana, twenty-four hour residential lockdown from the 23rd to the 27th of May. So, a quick trip to Jarir for puzzles to alleviate cabin fever. Pretty well picked over so we ended up with a 165 piece elephant themed jigsaw puzzle and an Eiffel Tower and Burjal-Arab 3D dealies.

Covid has stopped my work in it's tracks and I've been at home in Korat now since we returned from the UK after Christmas. Haven't worked since last November.

There are signs that work may be picking up... A good friend, also freelance, has picked up work in the UK/Danish Sector working on a cable route. He lives in Scotland, but has to quarantine in a hotel in Norwich for 14 days prior to boarding the vessel... all on full day rate, so nice work. While there he met a group of Poles today who flew over from Poland to join another vessel in Great Yarmouth tomorrow. No quarantine, no checks, and they spent today sight seeing around Norwich.

Has the UK nothing in place? It seems amazing to me.

But on the good side, once flights start up I'm feeling confident of picking up enough work the second half of this year to prevent a disaster. The rules in the UK seem very haphazard, at best.

Yes, they have. Most people entering the UK are supposed to self-quarantine now but there are some exemptions. Seafarers seem to be exempt.

No mandatory quarantine for seafarers in Britain

^ Amongst the agents I use, there seem to be a lot of confusion over the seafarers exemption and many are playing it safe.

But surely these Poles should be somehow tracked and confined before joining a vessel? It seems ludicrous to me.

I just remembered; it does not start until 8 June.

Theres no real UK laws on it and since that cumming guy fucked it off it looks like everyone else is as well.

And you wouldn't want to quarantine for 14 days in GT Yarmouth.

It's not far off the farang that leaves all the shopping at the check-out and walks off because it's 3:45pm and the cashier won't swipe through the box of Chang.

    Embarrassing.
