Great news here! It seems the lockdown is going to be relaxed on the 20th rather than at the end of the month.
No word about alcohol though, but I'm guessing if the government is willing to let restaurants open, then they'll probably allow the sale of booze.
"I was a good student. I comprehend very well, OK, better than I think almost anybody," - President Trump comparing his legal knowledge to a Federal judge.
^I hope things ease up in your island, topper. Next time, stock up on booze.
Lots of cheap spirits - Tanduay, Fundador, Emperador, Gilbey's, Ginebra - available in supermarkets. The covid restrictions may come in waves. Once they allow flights and/or ferries to operate again, the infected or asymptomatic people from other islands may bring the virus. I've heard that cases in Cebu are increasing. Good luck!
I don't like the idea of sticking the neck out as soon it goes quiet for a moment, just because someone who probably knows about as much as I do about the virus which isn't a lot decides to experiment by moving toward normality with health now as a lower priority than other stiff. Not knocking that as there are arguments both ways, just saying.
I might venture out a bit more, but the young one won't be going to school until I decide it's safe, and while I can't know how that time will come it won't be based solely on the opinions of our glorious leaders.
Points well stated...
The problem with the Pandemic isn't the medical damage, it's the economic damage. The young working folk will not sacrifice their future wealth and prosperity to save "the old codgers".
Facts that stand - 15% of there over 80's and those with compromised immune systems fill the ranks of the fatalities. Although the "social distancing, face mask and travel restrictions" can and are being presented as saving their "elders", the acceptance of this reasoning will only last 'till the bill collectors show up.
People need to earn to buy food, pay the mortgage and pay the bills. They, people in general, are willing to accept the burden for the greater good until it starts to detrimentally affect them.
Sure, I'll stay at home not working to save my dear old granddad, but, when junior and missy start crying for their lunch and dinner - All Bets Are Off.
^ FOJ with your phlegmatic jaded horseshit.
Had to do some errands yesterday, which ended up having to cross Sukhumvit 4x, which is firmly under control. It was impossible to go through or across without detours and hitting at least one checkpoint, for temperature and ID check, and though farangs seemed to be waved through after that many Thais were being stopped, possibly for purpose of travel, and some mosais and cars were being searched. Paranoia?
Here's why I ask. Also passed 4 food lines, one sustained at around 50m, and together with other lines I have seen or heard about, Pattaya seems well organised in this respect and nobody should go hungry. But that's not the point; anyone forced into the humiliation of queuing for food supplied not by their gov but by generous neighbours has been let down and has a legitimate grievance; and while they seemed placid enough over a few seconds of observation, I've no doubt there are lots of simmering people out there. On the plus side, for those with the guns, Thais are used to being fcuked by their leaders and conditioned to obey the great ones even through greater hardship.
OT but noted, one food line that I simply had to stop for a second look was peppered with quite well dressed East European looking individuals and families; imho the donors intended to feed Thais through these trying times, and should tell the parasites to fob off, not just for the obvious reason but it also fuels the resentment that some Thais have against farangs.

I hear you, but the above will all pale into insignificance as the real cost of the lockdowns are felt financially over the coming months.
Catching covid 19 will be the least of our problems. USA is a basket case as far as the pandemic is concerned, however if anyone over there can count, they will have no option but to open up for business shortly.
The "Populations" will decide economically - political hacks implementing restrictions based on the educated medicos won't mean a damn thing to the general population when their children go hungry - Thailands population of 65M certainly are not running for shelter from this horrid Covid Pandemic which has caused all of 2,733 confirmed cases and a huge grand total of 47 deaths in the Kingdom of Thailand.
The serious economic damage that is occurring significantly outweighs the potential medical catastrophe that is just not happening
See the prior post's picture for visual evidence of just how scared the Thai's actually are of this virus
well, in Thai mentality, if you don't see it, it's not there
That is a Must - there is no choice
Hmm... I don't know
Let’s do the math - population of the US is 328 million
Confirmed cases 706,880 (707k) 0.22%
Active Cases 614,047 (615k) 0.19%
Deaths 34,386 (35k) 0.01%
Not a basket case in my eyes. Now the economic damage - incalculable, that will be the basket case when the numbers are added up
^^Yeah but the Dow Jones 30 was up 700 yesterday...doesn't that mean all 330 million of us are just fine?
Actually as market performance is supposedly on the basis of expected performance in the future, well, kinda means the financial folk figure the economic impact won't be all that bad, or is factored in.
I'll be damned to make any prediction concerning the economics - watching the talking heads on the financial shows they are just shaking their heads saying the market performance defies explanation - doesn't matter, they'll collect their paychecks just fine, as will the politicos, CEO's, board members and officers. Now the freshly unemployed working class stiffs who have had their financial futures destroyed - not so much.
Didn't/won't affect performance in the near future, next year or two. Damn glad I ain't a millennial trying to figure out how to plan my financial future. Wondering when the bill will become due and just how to avoid damage to my and my families financial health. A veritable minefield...
Most persuasive philosophy I've heard from a Thai for ignoring the lockdown and social distancing measures, is I don't have it so there's no reason to change my routine.
