That's the deal here. My employer is arranging a pass for me to go to the office...bugger...The official said curfew exemptions still apply to those in vital public and private sectors such as security, military and media. Those who work in health services are also excluded from the curfew.
Residents in all these cities may leave their homes only out of absolute necessity such as buying food and for medical care only between the hours of 6 a.m. till 3 p.m. Residents going out must remain within their residential area.
Vehicle transportation will be restricted within their residential neighborhoods to meet necessary needs and that is only to one person, in addition to the driver of the vehicle so as to bring down contact with others to the minimum. It is also banned the practice of any commercial activities within the residential neighborhoods except for pharmacies and food supply stores, gas stations, banking services, maintenance and operation works, plumbers and electrical and air-conditioning technicians, water delivery services as well as sewage tankers.
It is quite possible that the summer break will begin a month early here and then start a month early.
@tomcat - lots of loo roll in PI, not a problem here. Ppl have the tabo (dipper), some have bum guns.
This was taken for TD.
@topper - I do hope that your lockdown eases. Since it's a small island, they can better guard the borders, I think. However, don't be too fooled by the numbers. In previous weeks, cases were few bcos of lack of test kits. Recently the govt has received the donated kits from SG. Then by Easter Monday, they aim for mass testing of PUIs (persons under investigation), since the locally made kits will be available by then. I expect numbers to soar. Admittedly, most cases are in Metro Manila & surrounds.
Cebu province has a 30-day lockdown, from what I've heard. Went into lockdown same time as Negros island.
If you want to watch PI news in English, check out ANC channel or CNN Philippines. Some have clips on YouTube. Manila Bulletin, Philippine Star, Rappler, The Inquirer also have clips on YT. You can access them from phone if you're on a prepaid data promo with free video/ YouTube. I get 1 GB of YT per day on my promo pack.
+++++
Went out for a short walk after more than a week. Stalls selling fruit, veg & fresh meats are still allowed to operate, as is the bakery & water station. Chicken seller was thankful for my rice donation - she needs it more. I think her sales are down since some ppl in my area left for their provinces before the lockdown. Then some of the ppl left behind have limited $$ for food, after 3 weeks of lockdown & no salary.

My side I had the installation scheduled the Tuesday after the shutdown. Didn't think much of the impact because dental is medical. The local clinic I use is part of an eight office franchise. They called me Sunday and said they would do my installation inside Bangkok metro at their headquarters.
They closed all their satellites. Had three patients in process (me included). They did all three in process patients that Tuesday and then were shutting down. If I had a problem the Doctor said she would address the problem at our local international hospital which had a dental clinic.
Thankfully no problem occurred - the very last place I want to go during an ongoing Pandemic is a hospital.
Asian and western perspectives differ considerably. In many asian cultures, daily life is considerably different for people. Interesting to note the Thai blaming 'faring' for all their ills.
You have to wonder how poor and backward they would be without western skills and influences, but a society without a social safety net will inevitably find someone to hold responsible for their poor social infrastructure. Especially when compared to the west.
We are the bad guys selling them luxury goods and phones, when they really need credible governance, without the endemic corruption.
Switch what would Asia do without the west hey, you total tosser look around you, the economies in Asia.
As some who live in Asia, the local communities not condos overlooking the polluted oceans, have illustrated, their are very strong social infrastructures, it's called family and friends.
The "developed world's", for profit "helplines", situated far away and staffed by scrip monkeys, unfortunately cannot meet it's raison d'êtr at the best of times.
"The service is experiencing high call numbers, please call back later". brrrrrrrrrrr .....
A tray full of GOLD is not worth a moment in time.
another one with poor comprehension skills. In your case, I suspect you are just being deliberately disingenuous. You know perfectly well the social infrastructure I am referring to, but choose to opt for your cause celebre.
No one is fooled by your display of absent cognitive skills.
Compliment accepted.
Many members of my now extended Thai family and wife's friends, who having moved away and for whatever have needed to return, are welcomed home. They share whatever is available, in some instances getting a rightful earful from some.
But they recover, are put work and move on with their lives.
Where do you think all those that fled Bangkok etc. on the buses, went?

Free packed meals offered in Beach Road, Threpprassit, Bukhaow and Talo, I hear also in other set locations throughout Pattaya; feel for those queuing, many of them have sod all and worse, zero faith in their leaders.
I believe the East can learn something from the West and vice versa. It is really hard to compare them though, at times it is like comparing apples to oranges especially when it comes to governments and safety nets.
I always found when teaching in Asia, that I learned a lot of things, but I'd also like to think that I taught the local teachers (and students) a lot of things including open communication, student centered learning, and critical thinking skills.
Wow! This may happen here as well, but that is not 100%. They just opened online learning for Ontario students.. but I am pretty sure not all students will do their work. Some students do not have computers, but the Toronto gov't is trying to give laptops to students to try to finish their work online.
Great idea. Compound your original error with further deliberate misunderstanding you utter oaf.
I am well aware of the strengths and weaknesses of Asian family culture. It is clearly insufficient to deal with a crisis of this magnitude. The government is floundering, trying to implement draconian measures to halt a pandemic they do not understand.
Social welfare measures available to westerners are not available in much of Asia. Without effective social safety nets, these developing countries will be unable to support the family oriented recourse they have relied on to do their job for them.
Are you being deliberately stupid, or is ignorance the cause of your inability to think beyond your own village?
This virus still hasn't stopped those lazy arse monks from touring the village taking food from folk who can't afford to give due to the current climate. Monks should be placed in lockdown as I don't see that they should be allowed to wander to possibly infect others. And what will happen on Buddha days? Have they been stopped?
And you think this doesn't happen in the West?
I know a couple of families that have chosen to do this. Chosen because they have a choice. There are other options available that many in SEA won't have. That's what comes of living in a society not constrained by the insular idea that the only important thing is their own family and local community while others suffer.
Some people think it don't, but it be.
Yea, I get tired of this bigotry that we kick our kids out at 18 to fend for themselves, that older people get placed in old age homes because their kids don't want them . . . yet you see so few older Asians travel, shop, go out to eat by themselves or with age-appropriate friends as they're laden with taking care of the grandchildren to the deprivation of all else.
Superior Asian family values? I've lived in Asia, and with Asians long enough to know that it's bullshit. It's just more OhOh bullshit.
Again, though, OhOh, have you lived or worked in China or a communist country? I have, we should compare notes and see why we have such different beliefs about the systems
Look around you, people sleeping in the streets due to non availability of anyone providing it. Do you believe people choose to sleep on the streets during an Aberdeen winter. Compared to the welcome at the Thai temples.
It's my perspective, others choose different life styles.
Of course it does.
Look through the threads, as I have already replied to your question previously. I'll leave it to you to locate it.
Agree with most of that PH. The ingrained culture that drives Asians to shop daily for fresh produce will not sit easily with them. Such cultural differences are anathema to efforts aimed at subduing the kind of contact that the virus thrives on.
In the USA, the gray dollar is driving families further apart in many cases. The elderly have seen it coming, and planned for it, and the kids are happy to support that attitude, as it allows them to abrogate such responsibilities that do still exist. Those familial responsibilities seem to be confined to the poorer levels of society.
Chico, with his head in the sand, will never see anything outside his internet blundering.
