It would probably be more social as you would get visits from doctors and nurses.

Had a bit of a premonition about that. Picked up a case of tall cans today. I only have one or two a day, but they are an essential food group in the early evening.

I was told by a student today that getting alcohol delivered was no problem in BKK.

Maybe I'll start writing my "Thailand - WTF" novel along the lines of Slap.

@topper - are the malls still open? If yes, go to the mall today & buy the prepaid router, as well as prepaid cards to load credits on it. Depending on your use, you can load credit for 3, 7, 14, 28 days and I think it has 1 GB of YouTube everyday. A friend of mine uses it for online teaching bcos of this WFH situation. Take note that signal can be intermittent.

The large supermarkets might still be selling alcohol. Buy the big bottles of Fundador, Emperador or Tanduay rhum. Mix them with Del Monte pineapple or four seasons juice.

I like the regular Tanduay with four seasons, while the Tanduay white with pineapple juice.

If the big stores don't sell anymore, try 7/11 or the small sari sari stores - they might sell to you secretly. Small stores may have Ginebra, the proletariat gin! Get out & about soon!

Last week, it still wasn't too strict here. They've become stricter this week since many ppl weren't following the rules. It may happen there too - your province is 1-2 weeks behind.

    Cheers!

^Lol. You can say it's the BF's influence. Good or bad?

In our Baguio/Sagada holiday earlier this month, we bought 6 bottles of flavored Soju. Hey, they were on promo: 6 bottles for the price of four!

^there's hope. hoodlum nephew would know which small stores have alcohol. They'll prolly sell, if the price is right. Little stores need income too. Tell him to bring a cloth or paper bag for the alcohol run.

    Hi Katie,

PLDT prepaid routers are "out of stock" of course. We've got one from Globe but it's worthless.

I ended up turning that job in BKK down, it just doesn't seem like a wise move at the moment due to the virus and the inevitable aftershocks both economic and social. I'll be in UB for another 2 years, if the virus doesn't mess up my lungs I'm sure the air will take a yeoman's crack at it.

@mandaloopy - good luck! I hope all turns out well for you, including your lungs. Why not try Taiwan or S Korea? Both have covid, but Taiwan has managed it well. As for SK, they're stabilizing now, I think. I found Taiwan beautiful & peaceful. The air quality would be much better there.

@topper - unfortunately, that's sometimes/usually the case in the provinces. Most of the stocks come from Manila/ Luzon. With this CV, it may take more time for supplies to be replenished. If malls are still open, try other obscure malls. A friend bought his PLDT router not from the PLDT office, but from a cellphone parts & accessories stall inside a low traffic supermarket/ mall.

Do you & your wife have face masks? If surgical or N95 masks aren't available, buy some of those black cloth ones. Line them with tissue paper so that you can change the tissue frequently. You can wash the cloth ones too, in hot water. In many areas here (accdg to friends), you're not allowed to go around without masks. I don't know if it will come to that situation in your area, but best be prepared.

Btw, don't wait for Friday to panic-buy. By then the shelves might be empty. But, come to think of it, as I've said before - poor ppl don't panic buy, they just panic! When I did my grocery runs last Sunday (1 week after lockdown) - the shelves were still full. The wet markets remain open (but sometimes limited schedule). I've made my own kimchi today so that I have vegs of some sort.

    Stay safe, healthy & sane!

The virus is everywhere so doesn't matter where you are.

But moving here in time for the new school year is going to be a pain I reckon. Just finding s place to live let alone anything else. Best stay put wherever you are for now.

Some interesting info in that link Sid.

That explains why the roads have been like the Tour de France..
    Dusting off old bikes
Trade industry bodies had previously said that bicycle retailers and repair shops had seen a spike in demand as people "clean the cobwebs off" their old bikes in an attempt to avoid public transport during the pandemic.

Jonathan Harrison of the Association of Cycle Traders told the BBC that "there had been an uplift in sales across the board, with larger retailers also reporting more 'entry-level' bikes going."

However, he pointed out that with more consumers staying in due to the new government restrictions, "it's difficult to know whether or not that trend will continue."

Of interest to UK members who drive cars. Mine is due July.

Coronavirus: Drivers to get six-month emergency MOT extension

Motorists worried about getting an MOT because of the coronavirus crisis, have been handed a six-month reprieve.

The government has granted car owners a six-month exemption from MOT testing.

However, it won't come in until Monday 30 March which means vehicles due an MOT before then must still take it.

It doesn't go into detail about wether you are still legally insured if one was to have an accident.
The police just won't fine you..

^ Granted the detail is yet to be refined.

I think the Govt will force compliance in the industry else there is no point in making the policy statement. After all the industry are getting support for the second time in a decade whether directly or indirectly - they will be treading on very dodgy ground if they try pulling any nonsense in a time of national emergency imo.
