Chico, its not really about the mortality rate, its the transmission rate and the problems associated with dealing with the sick. Not even first world healthcare systems can cope if large numbers become sick. You then have the knock on effect on people who are sick with other illnesses not getting treated ot medication they need.

They can't even deal with Flu.

Look around and see what they are doing to nature, with all the bio-engineered foods etc

This outbreak is no different from any of the other virus's,its just that China has copped it,and there population is much bigger than any other.

Now flights to Japan and Bangkok are suspended, I will also be off work for another month. I've never seen a government react is such a way, it has certainly been interesting. Of immediate concern is finding ways to limit cabin fever and the blues. I have a feeling that flights to South Korea will be stopped next.

It looks like I could be teaching lessons on Saturday. The most problematic issues so far have been boredom and moderate loneliness during the working week.

Without reading back, what is your situation?

    No work for another month.

Can you leave the country? Are there still flights out? Or do you still have some work duties set by the director (prep work or whatever)

Is going outside restricted? Or is it down to self imposed isolation?

(apologies for the OhOh-esque questions, but it's interesting having a source that's somewhat living through what's going on)

We are doing some online teaching, it kinda doesn't work with my grade levels on account of their age. I cannot leave the country as I would be banned from reentry! It gets crazier, as from next week I am banned from leaving UB, all interstate traffic be it private or public has been suspended. There is not one case of this virus in Mongolia, at least officially. This is now starting to annoy ever so slightly. I have one more essay to write for this PGCEi, but it requires I collect research, so there better not be another fecking delay to term starting.

I was sat in a taxi 25 minutes after touching down at Suvarnabhumi today.

When there's no travellers the immigration works well.

My son sent home twice from school this week just for a slight cough / sneezing in (aircon) classroom. No sign of fever or 'flu at all, but sent out of class to see school nurse who immediately calls to tell me to collect him.. WTF?

Chinese teams have been banned from attending a footy tournament in April. By the people who own the pitches not the organisers.

Okay, this is getting a little beyond what I was expecting, there is talk of travel within UB itself being restricted by the army and police. I think the government is enjoying its power more than it is looking out for the health of the general population.

I retired from offshore work some years back, the past four years I have done a lot of work with a friend trying to get contracts for abandoned rigs left in China, he has been working full time on this for 6 years, finally two weeks ago we reached the stage where we could get the client to travel to China and sign up - guess what happened!
Not sure what is going to happen now! once the summer arrives in China expect the virus will start to die off, quite when that will be, I'm thinking end of April, maybe optimistic.

My third year students graduated today as the ceremony was held early and cut short, with no after party. Poor kids. All schools have been closed down in Japan. I have been sent on holidays early.

I am very much looking forward to something in about a week or so. One of my Thai colleagues (we have worked in the same place for 20 years) believes himself to be a law unto himself. He pretty much ignores all rules and regulations, and when specifically asked to do something - will most likely do the exact opposite just to show how little he gives a f*ck.

Well, a couple of days ago he went on holiday to - Taiwan. All staff have been repeatedly informed that if they go to one of the listed countries (which includes Taiwan) they may not return to work for two weeks, and the extra 14 days will be deducted from accumulated leave. Everyone I have spoken to is convinced that f*cker will come into work - definitely on the weekend, and possibly on weekdays.

Going to be fun to see whether his instinct for self-preservation kicks in, or he will go true to form. And more interesting to see what work does if he does ruck up.

I did have a cough, runny nose etc., but the village TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) lady, gave me a few herbs, roots and balms for my gorgeous Mia to rub me with. Also instructions to have my keyboard replaced.

    The symptoms have all gone.

We are continuing with the balms though.

Today I had to visit the Doctor in Korat and she asked me why I wasn't wearing a mask. I told her because it doesn't stop you from getting a/or the virus as there are too many gaps around the edges etc. I also said to her that the chief of the WHO has said masks don't help people who don't have the virus but might help those who have it so that they don't infect others when the cough or sneeze. She was wearing a mask and they were testing everyone as they entered the hospital and giving them hand sanitiser to use so I suppose that helps.

Anyway when I came home I had a conversation with my Missus and she informed me that they (I presume the Thai Govt.) are talking about passing a law to make it compulsory to wear a mask if things get any worst. Has anyone else heard about this ridiculous idea. If were anywhere else I would dismiss it but hear with the dipstick Minister of Health already having thrown a tantrum about masks I really believe they might do it.

If they do it might mean I have to stay at home until sanity returns, oh shit its Thailand that means until I die as sanity will never survive here.

No negative affect at all... I got a cheap flight for one of my kids though.
I had a bit of something minor a month ago, but I'm very rarely ill, and even when I am, it's very mild. I rang up hospital in the UK about tests and they seemed very nonchalant about it. Up to you if you feel off. Meanwhile media is going hysterical about it and weather, as usual.

I went into my local Boots and asked "What is good for killing the Coronavirus?".

    "Ammonia Cleaner" came the reply.

I said "Oh sorry, I thought you worked here".

CORONAVIRUSKick foreigners, not wearing face-masks, out of Thailand – Minister

"Thailand’s mercurial Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has slammed foreign tourists who aren’t wearing face masks, or refuse to wear them when offered a free one offered by the government, says they “should be kicked out.” He was handing out government freebies this morning at the Siam BTS station as part of the Thai government’s education about coronavirus."
