Gas Meter With a Mind of it's Own!

I don't suppose I will get a sensible answer but here goes: Every night when I have gone to bed and the gas is not in use, somehow or other that f**** meter charges me 88 pence! It is a pay as you go meter which I top-up with a card. Can anybody explain - perhaps there some heating engineers on here?

Sounds like it is a daily standing charge.

My guess would be a daily standing charge, even pay as you go meters have this.

Depends if he went into the red on meter or previously and they are recovering it through a higher charge rate.

LD, have a look at your recent electricity bill ... probably about the same as you are charged for the privilege of having an electric meter hanging in your switchboard.

No it's not a standing charge, they recommended paying £15.00 per week which is what I pay, it shouldn't deduct 88 pence every night. However, an engineer is coming on Monday so I will let you know the final verdict.

At least paying in GBP you are not exposed to currency translation costs or risk.

OP - do you have a water heater or central heating? Both of these might need a pilot light, hence the use of gas.

If the engineer turned up when he said, Ronin will most surely be back in the UK.

Wait til he gets his Council Tax and water bill.

Standing charge collected at 2am every day, depending on supplier anywhere from 20p-80p per day.
