Thai MP says licenced BROTHELS will reduce RAPE

Thai Civilized party leader, and member of the House committee studying ways to reduce rape and other sexual violations, Mongkolkit Suksintharanont, has proposed that #Thailand should permit regulated and licenced brothels and sex toy shops as a way to address the problem.

The controversial government MP said in his Facebook post on Wednesday that he would raise his proposal with committee members at their first meeting, scheduled to take place yesterday.Explaining the logic behind his idea, Mongkolkit said that it must be understood that humans, by nature, are born to reproduce.
Any laws and cultural norms about sexual activity came later, making humans different from other animals.
He claimed that most rape cases are perpetrated by men to release their sexual tension, noting that the offences are committed in families, in work places among colleagues and in schools among classmates.
Rapes reported to the police are just a fraction of those actually committed, said Mongkolkit

He claimed that his idea of state-sanctioned brothels and sex shops followed the Swiss model, adding that it would help reduce rape and corruption among officials for their oversight of the lucrative illegal sex trade. – ThaiPBS

Well, I suppose it depends on the price.

But anyway, reading the article begs the question of the legality of the อาบอบนวด massage parlours, which are just glorified brothels.

Selling sex there is not legal but not acted upon by the cops, like countless other things.

    What’s the question?

While it would still be open to corruption and bribery for protection by authorities, it does make sense. Health checks for staff would be a better attempt at disease prevention, and government would be able to tax it of legalized.

Not just for Thailand, but globally for other countries in denial.

The only thing legalized Brothels will reduce is Thai police income.

The concept is fine and would work in less corrupt parts of the world, but in a place like this the reality would be as you say industrial corruption beneath a thin layer of integrity for public consumption, both by design.

I don't know about now but in the PI, late 80s, they had a similar system whereby every bargirl had to have a monthly checkup and if clean gets a half-inch stamp on her card, without which she could not work. How difficult is it to replicate a stamp? It wasn't then, either.

OT, with the relaxation of sex laws under the junta, my bladder is even more insistent that a casino is coming; won't be tomollo but it's coming; big money to be made, and our glorious leaders will like that.

Thais like to gang rape. Will these people be catered for? And why pay for it when Somchai can get it free? There are already brothels out here in the sticks so why the fuss?

Punters come and go. Governments in Thailand, in one form or another are here to stay.
While they continue to operate a kind of caste system against agriculture, the women who flood the industry need protection. It’s the least any Thai government can do for them.
