How did you split up with your ex?

...in Farangland, if you had one?

This is inspired by one of keda's posts, I bet there are some nightmarish stories folks have been through.

For me it was comparatively 'harmless', since we weren't married, kept 2 separate houses and didn't have children. (yes, one of these 'modern' relationships)
"Only" the emotional trauma, which caused me to sell my house in the UK and go traveling, first time in my life outside Europe. The rest is history and I ended up in the North of Thailand with a much better quality of life than back in Blighty.

I should be grateful to the lady concerned.

Usually they run off with another bloke. It's a good thing as there's no being kicked out of the house or any of that kind of stuff. Sure does feel like a kick in the balls, though, for a time. And the bills are suddenly doubled.

    Told this story before:
he wouldn't come home to discuss our marriage & future after various 'mistresses' had phoned me to inform me of their liasions with him (he was living & working in PI). I thought if it wasn't worth discussing it wasn't worth having. So, I changed the locks & chucked his plastic model ships in the bin. Those were the only things I destroyed - I hated those bloody ships!

Took the knife off her and knocked her out to give me time to pack my saddle bags. She came too just as I was tring to get the bike out and closed the back gate so I rode straight through it and off into the sun set

Ugly...when I discovered she was a bit too pally with our dog trainer I packed and headed off for SEA...she said what about splitting our assets and I mistakenly said take what you want, expecting a modicum of fairness for the 6 excellent years we had together, considering when we met she had never been into a casino or travelled outside of Holland.

At the time we had a bio cosmetics business, which was the rage, two cars, house and flat, two dogs and I was a pro gambler doing very well indeed, with stocks, loads of jewellery and the trimmings...returned two years later to nothing, my portfolio and our joint properties had been sold off, which I found out whilst in PI and knew it must be with hookey sigs, and it seems even my clothes were the 'right size'.

Sure I could've had her on the fraud, but once able to breathe again I traced her, then had them checked out, found out she had a kid and was real happy with life, and even from that low point in my life decided to leave it at that.

On reflection not philanthropic at all, just plain dumb.

She broke up with me, after 2 years where I was mostly too lazy to give her the attention she needed. And she didn't fancy moving to Thailand indefinitely, and realized I would not be happy if I stayed.

After 20 years in a relationship that was going nowhere, we decided to split amicably.

We had grown apart over the years as my career developed, & she continued in her ideal world of magazines, TV, church stuff, asset accumulation. I fed my mind, she fed her insecurities. In the end, we had nothing in common.

Before all the final paperwork was settled, we did try again for a few weeks (on the advice of the church), but, in the end, there was way too much emotional baggage & I decided to move on with my life. She was pretty bitter over that.

My ex has a horrible temper and severe anger management problems. Her brothers warned me of this before we got married, but to me she was just a sweet island woman who shared my passion for running. I proposed to her in Fiji at the South Pacific Games in 1979. She was a competitor and I was a coach.

It didn't take long for me to realize that her brothers knew what they were talking about. She pulled a knife on me a several years after we were married. (Her nieces and nephews call her "Auntie Bruja" -- Auntie Witch.)

From that point on I tread lightly and tried to handle her with kid gloves. I could never know what was going to make her angry or how serious her blow-ups would be.

By the early 90's I couldn't handle it any more, but by then we had a daughter. I stuck it out for my daughter's sake and I'm glad I did. But, for my sake I should have bailed long before I did.

I finally left in 2004 after we'd been married nearly 25 years. It was hard and I only managed to do it because I could see a better life with someone else and a retirement that I could enjoy.

Of course, I realize that my 16 YO daughter probably wouldn't be a mother now if I'd stuck around and the guilt surrounding that has become horribly painful.

And, instead of having a comfortable retirement, I'm struggling financially; something I haven't had to do since I was an impoverished university student.

Sometimes life sucks. Sometimes it's great.

My last farang-ex were from England, a souvenir I got after working there for almost two years, it was a love hate from the start, she had an English boy-friend when she met me, and she dident bother telling him about it, so that was a lot fun when he found out.
Later we moved, when I changed work, and historie repeated it-self, I was working my ass of, she got bored and started screwing a new guy, and they were both fucked, when I found out what was going on....

Never have a relationship with someone who is already in a relationship, because in the end, they will cheat on you, too.

I hate breaking up with girls. I can't do it.

If I want out I try and let things cool and then give her an excuse to end it - hopefully without bitterness. I am on reasonably good terms/friends with a few of them I think.

Has the added advantage that a quickie for old times sake is not always out of the question

Being single is great for a short period of time but it gets a bit to much after while all that partying and rooting around. Its much better having a wife that tells me when I have had enough to drink and root

You are just an incurable romantic Rigger, such a sweet talker.

Just drifted apart from my ex, she was and still is a great Lady but I am a bit of a Gypsy arsehole.

I went through loads of rather intimate internal tests to see why we were not conceiving and he refused to have a sperm test.
