Would you go on holiday to Saudi Arabia

So, it looks like it has been possible to somewhat expensively get a tourist visa for a while now.
    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/n...here-to-visit/

The coast certainly holds some appeal to visit, but the appalling Human Rights record would certainly be something for me to think about. I'd be more tempted to visit a different isolated country without that issue to satisfy my curiosity for of the beaten tourist path places.

I'd go back if the money was right, wouldn't dream of going there for a fucking holiday though!.

Tip of the hat to Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, both were approached to play in the Saudi Open golf tournament next month and offered $2,500,000 appearance fees each plus the chance to win a share of the $3,500,000 prize money on top of that and both said no thank you.

There are some interesting spots. The best time to visit is now as the weather is tolerable. For most of the year it's hellishly hot.

I'd give the Dammam/Khobar/Dhahran conurbation a miss. Not much to see or do there, but it's the gateway to Bahrain (expensive booze and Russian hookers).

Makkah and much of Madinah are off-limits. Jeddah would be worth a look for the old town and souqs.

Madain Saleh in the Madinah region would be good if you're in archeological sites.

Al Wahbah Crater 250 Kms NNE from Taif has spectacular views.

The Farasan island chain on the southwest coast apparently has world class diving.

So yeah. There are some things to do. It's not an easy country to deal with. Saudis can be freaking inconsistent when it comes to organisation and customer service.
    pues, estamos aqui

I suspect you've been to neither Saudi Arabia nor Somalia. Just your typical unfunny bullshit.

Anyone planning to attend a grand prix being held there in December can now buy an ordinary 14-day tourist visa, the Kingdom has announced, giving them access to the race but also to the rest of the country.
Does the Saudi Embassy in London possess a large furnace?

I feel for expats working there, must be a hellish existance living were the only incentive is money and camel shagging.

No. I refuse to work or holiday in any of the Middle East. I have turned a few lucrative jobs down due to the location. I don't regret my decision not to go...plenty of nicer places to visit.

Petty change to Tiger and to a lesser extent Rory. It is Saudi after all they could have coughed up more cash.

^Well one of them would have probably won it so they'd be looking at trousering about $3,500,000 for 4 days work. I know they're both very well off but that's the most money available in golf by far, besides winning the FedEx. Dustin Johnson wouldn't be short of a dollar either, but he's signed up to play.

It's not that bad. Like the old story goes - you go to Saudi with two buckets. One is labelled "money" and the other "bullshit". When one bucket is full it is time to go.

I could not possibly holiday in a place that doesn't have a beer shop on every corner.

There's Bahrain next door, but a pint will run you nearly ten quid.

Saudi isn't as dry as people think, especially if you live there and know the ropes. Fucking expensive for the real stuff though.

The Visa is actually $189 for a year, but even though I'm nearby I can't see anything worth going for bar one thing in one shop, and I'll be back there on a work visa soon enough anyway.

They're not ready for alcohol yet, although rumours abound that they might go like Qatar and Dubai and allow it for "non-Muslims".

Exactly Uncle Nid, i've been to loads of countries and been in Saudi on business but there's much more interesting deserts to explore than one with an odious regime like those fukers.

    Edit

Mogadishu is more interesting but too edgy.

of course I have never been there, why would I go into those 2 shitholes? only a retard would bother, and you seem to be one of them. Nothing to do with unfunny bullshit, it's simply a destination for self-infliction torture and future problems to come

To be fair I've got a mate in Saudi and he seems to spend most of his time on a golf course. Advertising or something.

Would opt for Jordon, Israel and then Egypt instead, ending with a few days/night Felucca along the Nile by Luxor.
