No time for PC snowflake expats

LoL, seems that I upset the local expat FB group in Luang Prabang with my non-PC, sarcastic SOH. Delicate snowflakes took umbrage when I sarcastically asked whether someone's pet dog was alive or dead (the photo showed it lying on it's back, apparently dead, and with it's tongue hanging out and lolling to one side).

This was why I cancelled my move last year to Mae Sot - the FB group in town for expats in MS seemed to consist of a bunch of self-entitled wankers.

Seems that where expat NGOs go, so does over-the-top PC and the inability to recognise humour.

I love Luang Prabang, but I'm pretty sure that I won't be mixing with any of these expat types. Better stick to seducing the local lasses instead......

    Merry Christmas everyone!

Simon its your duty as an Englishman to turn up the heat and melt the NGO wankers. I've met my fair share and they do come across as a sanctimonious bunch by and large. Only ones i took to was a group of ex Brit EOD wallahs who were globe trotting risking their lives to diffuse UXOs.

you posted something stupid on a facebook group page and other members apparently told you off....so you rush to TD to cry about it....and they're "the delicate snowflakes".

    ok.

    sure.

and btw, where's the "PC" aspect to any of this?

    LoL, so I have.

In any case, the dog was not dead at all. It was simply fast asleep in a rather dead-looking pose. So I made a small joke about whether it was actually alive and that upset the doggie-lovers. The FB group mod said that many members had complained about my posts (what!? there were more posts that they didn't like??). Some members said I was 'aggressive and rude', simply because I didn't agree with their POV and challenged them (in a polite manner). I was 'told off' for cracking a joke about ladyboys and warned that my comments were not PC and discriminatory against LBs FFS! Bollox, have these people got no sense of humour? (Apparently NOT!).

Since I'm the most mild-mannered, good-natured sort of guy, who never posts anything that could be described as trolling or baiting etc etc, I realised that in fact the problem wasn't me but them....

I'm having a cracking Xmas Day. Spent the afternoon lounging around at Utopia Bar (my local since it's only 200 metres from my house) and oggling the local female bar staff while frotting my table leg

You'll find that these tight expat [whatever that is] circles retain the same character and mindset regardless of locale.
    Especially true within provincial situations.

Best avoided, as there's nothing special about these cnuts and their company.
Some of us have spent a lifetime having little to do with these types and much more comfortable/connected for it.

The problem is it's difficult to portray humour on those kind of groups. if it's 50-50 if they think you're being offensive most people seem to head the offended way.

To be fair, I can't imagine most groups of any kind wanting to have much to do with you.

Taking into account the fact that you are clearly a complete and utter fuckwit.

Simon, they are probably Americans, and they have a different sense of humour. You Brits have a different style, and the yanks don't always realize this. Aussies do...we were brought up on a diet of Brit humour in the 60s and 70s.

Yes, yanks take things too personally and themselves too seriously.

Because so many FB group members failed to recognise sarcasm comments, I had to resort to enclose them in [sarcasm] [/sarcasm] tags, (which sort of destroyed the whole point of writing the dry comment in the first place)

I agree with this statement and having worked with a lot of Americans it is hard to find one who understands the subtle humour of non Americans.
If you look at their TV humour it is in your face slapstick dumb shit suitable for dummies.
Aussie and Brit humour is much more subtle and needs a brain to interpet and enjoy it.
I am sure as hell glad I have never been to the US as I would most likely get shot when all i was doing was having a crack at some Yank who was packing.

That might be the first time that the words 'Aussie' and 'subtle' have been used in the same sentence.
