My guess he works from home most of the time. I today's world reporting to the office on a daily basis is thankfully a dated concept. Heads into Bangkok or HK for a few round tables in the conference room and then off to a nice lunch or dinner. If it was more grindy than that it starts not being fun anymore.

^ he's probably also able to stay sober for more than a few hours daily which help when meeting people on business.

Japper has said many times he has a driver and is currently in Chonburi for work.

Thank god that's the truth Snubs. Man going to the office or factory every day with all the communication technology available seems so old school. I used to laugh when I saw people sit in cubes and just email people all day some who sit right next to them.

Could be confusing you with someone else, but I thought you posted here that you did that for a decade or more?

Well Ootai I attempt to play golf but I am a hack. However it's worth the laugh and fun when I ricochet a ball off numerous trees or splash one in the water...555.

Well quite frankly I started to realize how all the office work had become quite stale. I laughed at myself as well as I knew it was time for a change.

considering the fact that you have an employer, do as directed, and receive payment, wouldn't it be more accurate to say that you changed jobs?

or perhaps we just have a different understanding of the word 'retired'.

Likely so Ray. There was a time when people worked M -F 50 to 70hrs a week basically until 65 or 70 then retired only to pass shortly after as they had no life outside of work. Nowadays people call it retirement when they have enough in the bank but work doing whatever they want on their terms and working the hours they want and prefer. It's more like a hobby then work. I personally fit in the latter like Snubs and do not work set hours, do not sit in an office but direct remotely. So being I come and go as I want but still deliver the expected results i consider that retirement with a plus of getting paid. Retirement to me was never about sitting around doing nothing, watching TV and eating at 8 -12- 5 and bed by 8.

Many punters have nothing else going on in their life so choose to carry on working . Others have bad relationships and the thought of spending 24/7 with the Bint is a killer.

Other love the money and social interaction they get from working. Others work because they want to provide more for their adult kids.

And then there are us who have become financially independent and realise life ain't no rehearsal so get into it while ya can.

I have mates still working who upon retirement will have that much money they will never be able to spend it.

They fall into the top group and I pity the poor bastards.

Scratch the TV watching (TV watching doesn't appeal), but the rest I could do happily for a month or so if I could throw in some gym, travel, and university classes to keep the mind occupied.

Sadly I know quite a few like that, clearly their choice. A few I asked "What will you do when you are either let go or forced out?" Most have this very puzzled lost look like its not going to happen then they walk off the cliff and reality sets in and they have no idea what they will do. One thing for sure, you have to have hobbies which gives one purpose. When you finally exit the work segment the hobbies fill that gap and you find like many of us that we are busier now then ever but its all really enjoyable and you do it when you want. There is no schedule. Kind of like Norton's avatar, To do list....."Nothing"

My definition of "retired" is that state when you no longer get paid by someone i.e. a company or individual to do what they want you to do.
Retired does not have to be a for the rest of your life you can come and go just like working.

Over 10 years ago I "retired" and had no intention of ever working for anyone ever again and then less than a year later an opportunity presented itself and I stopped being "retired" and become "really tired" because I was working again. It was probably one of the best decisions I have ever made as I can now enjoy my current "retirement" with a little more certainty than before.
I have now been "retired" for over 3 years and enjoy it.

In the Western calendar, there is no year zero.

It went from 1 BCE to 1 CE (or 1 BC to 1 AD if you're a god-botherer). No zero in between those two years of transition.

Nothing quantuum about it, just simple math.

We're finishing up the last decade this year.

lets stick with the Jap way of doing it.

The Japanese era name (年号, nengō, "year name") and so the present era, Reiwa, formally began on 1 May 2019

Simples it is year ONE i like the Nips.
