^ That knife ain't at all blunt.

That's a genuine Do Home steak knife... would slice off a bollock as soon as look at it.

So, the plastic jug which we have always used to decant water from the 20 litre containers we get, was no more.

The empty plastic water bottles were building up so today I took the big decision to use this china jug we have in the house, to decant water into the bottles, in the absence of the wife showing the presence of mind to actually get off the sofa, lose an hour of Thai TV exposure, and go out and buy a replacement plastic jug.

I'm sure this all sounds pretty boring... but guess where the wife hides her extra housekeeping money!

Ha ha... I'm way to clever to tell her I know about it. Sneaked out THB 1000 with some instructions for the gardener...

A free bottle of Mont Clair for me tonight!

Today we all went to The Mall for a Japanese lunch.

That's not the cheer because I hate the bladdy place, especially at weekends when it's packed out after eventually reaching it after battling through Korat's awful traffic. I still can't get my head round the fact that many Westerners go there for enjoyment at he weekend.

No, my cheer is that I sorted out the daughter's UK passport renewal photos. They were as cheap as chips so I got meself some as well!

    No stopping me now!

You could have just used a passport photo app on your phone and printed them off yourself, if you weren't such a Yokel

^ I thought about doing it myself but surely if you take a 'selfie', your face is the wrong way round?

And I have no photographic paper and my Magenta cartridge needs replacing. All in all I reckon that 150 Baht for 12 pics wasn't too bad!

All cut and bagged up as well.

    How much was the Japanese?

Did you go for the Katsu?

Those expats you mentioned just go there for the aircon I reckon.

^ The Mall, the original one which is the best imho!

^^ Not only the aircon, you can also ogle the shop assistants... I would imagine.

The Japanese was 2600 Baht, or 2620 Baht after the wife had swiped my generous tip and left a measly 20 Baht note.

With hindsight I guess I could have got meself a pack of photographic paper and a Magenta print cartridge and still had change for a box of Mont Clair and a couple of takeaway pizzas from Pizza Company (I have a two for one card valid to April that never gets used).

This is making that search of Phuket for a genuine samsngu notebook seem like an emotional roller coaster.

Are you suggesting that my life seems to have slipped into one of meaningless mundane domesticity?

I wish I could argue against that.

Hang on... how has this gone from Daily Cheer to Daily Moan within a handful of posts?

I love these stories of coulda, shoulda..... cheers Mendy

I am more surprised you spent 2600 Baht for a dinner. Your hand must have been shaking and tight gripped coughing up the money.

    Where did you eat. Fuji?

1 year extension to stay delivery day.

    Thai Immigration.

Entered, "Good morning" and handed over my passport.

Sit down for five minutes ... Two other customers being attended to.

The first being told to go to Cambodia or Laos and apply for a new visa, as he can't extend his stay. The second being told they can extend but only for 30 days ....

    Another 5 minute wait ....

Two female officers and the helpful English-speaking admin assistant approach ...

"Your extension to stay approval has not been received", the assistant tells me.

The officer seeing my face says, "We will call Bangkok."

A few minutes listening out for police sirens

The assistant calls me over, smiles and raises my passport ...

Opens it and points to the date, 29/12/2023, and smiles.

Points out the 90-day visit date and says, "See you then", another big smile.

As I reach to open the exit door, she calls out, "Best come in the afternoon next year".

Putting her over my knee and spanking her, were my thoughts.
A tray full of GOLD is not worth a moment in time.

My impression here is that now they have sorted out the 90-Day reporting online it has reduced the footfall in the office and made it a generally cheerier place to visit when the need arises.

I'll be moving back to Thailand in July.
Planning on taking a mini sabbatical to learn Thai at a language school and then look for a job. Mongolia has been great, but it's time for a change.
