What a brilliant day . . . after our obligatory Saturday deep-clean . . . the weather was beautiful - 14 degrees and sunny. Packed a picnic basket with lots of cheese (blue, brie, limburger and aged stilton), different types of crackers, wine, very nice freshly squeezed apple juice and went to the park . . . threw the ball for the dog, walked a lot and enjoyed the warmth and appreciated having the family around me.

I see it as one of my duties, as I get older, to embarrass my children.

So yearly visa extension and work permit renewal time. Four of us from work. Started from work 8.30, immigration at 9.00. All four of us done and dusted by 9.40 Off to the work permit place, documents lodged and back in the office by 11.00am. Not too painful at all.

You got the visa extension before the Work Permit was applied for and issued? I thought it was the other way round these days.

Or is it because you're on a Non-O visa and not a Non-B, or something like that?

Not sure, but been doing it that way round for 20 years. Do not think you can do it the other way round. You cannot get a WP without the correct visa (and extension)?

I've done it both ways round during my time here. The last time was definitely WP first, extension second. Perhaps it depends on the immigration office involved.

We've always sorted the work permit after the visa, otherwise the work permit is only valid until the end of the current visa.

Strange. I have always done the Laos trip for the Non-B, then back to get the work permit, then to Immigration to extend the Non-B to match the contract and Work Permit date.
