    I wouldn't blame a women (or a man for that matter) for chasing the money. Thai Woman and Western Man - western men have more money - simple as that. Same goes for "illegal immigration". I'm American - if I could earn 5-10 times my salary by sneaking into Canada and working illegally, well, guess where I'd be.

    I'll be damned if I judge a Thai girl/woman/bargirl/masseuse for chasing the money and bettering their (and possibly their families) lives by deciding to "employ" themselves at the high paying job of being a westerners "Mrs."

    Hell, I expect there are many Thai females who wish they had the ways or means to attract a rich falang husband but fall short.

    ^Thanks for your opinion, I was hoping to get more honest opinions from other western men (Chitty for example who started this thread).

    I think money comes into play big time in a place like Thailand, but I am pretty sure that there are many couples that have fallen in love after time or even when they met. I'm sure there are happily married couples, and educated Thai women who work and bring in some income. I don't like to peg everyone as the same.

    My reply was to the comment of SeekingAss. He makes a fair point though, that many people would say that Thai people are stupid or uneducated, but I believe a lot of it is cultural and the way they were taught and raised in this type of society.

    I wouldn't marry for money, but I also wouldn't marry someone a lot poorer than myself as I often found it difficult to relate economically and sometimes being on different wavelengths. As I said before, I admire mixed couples that make it work, because I don't know if I could do it long term.

    Well, I've been fortunate in my life. I visited many countries and have seen abject poverty.

    Birthright can be a most difficult obstacle to overcome. Climbing out of the slums of Bangkok, New York City, Mumbai, or any metropolis can be a daunting task. Coupled with the great many "educational" opportunities provided by impoverished metropolitan slums... Well, you get my drift. In many cases getting enough to eat and basic survival may be all you can hope for and may well be considered "success".

    In my travels I have recognized that we are all alike - our minds work the same - you, I and every other person on this planet will choose whichever option provides best for them. Looking back at my life, my path was always laid out in front for me. In every decision I had to make it was pretty clear which path was correct. And I've never second guessed myself. I am where I am as a matter of choice - and, if I had it to do again - I would not change a thing. Including the "wrong" decisions I made. Hindsight is always 100% correct.

    Cheers Bowie, good advice to live by. We are ultimately responsible for our choices and those choices lead us down different paths. Cheers to that! I've chosen to enjoy my life broad for many years and learned so much about life and myself. Marriage hasn't been in the cards and besides, it really isn't all it is cracked up to be seeing the divorce rates these days. lol. Take Care

    Your "random" quotation marks are weird, so is your narrow and jaundiced world view on the matter.

    I can't speak for all of them, but I am sad and pathetic with deep-rooted psychological issues (coming to TD therapy doesn't appear to help any)...

    In my passport there is a sex definition, M or F. I suspect the TIO uses that definition. Just two genders so far. Somebody needs to meet the new modern needs.

    However all is not lost.

    There also doesn't appear to be any Thai legal requirement that states "a legal marriage" can only be between a "man' and a "woman'. Thus a UK legal "woman" may legally marry a Thai "woman".

    How To Get Married in Thailand Legally

    Like any other special occasion, marriage takes a lot of preparation. If you are planning to get married in Thailand, you need to be familiarized with several processes and legalities it entails. Securing legal assistance from a local attorney is the best way to ensure that your marriage carries weight in Thailand and abroad, and guarantee compliance to Thai legal parameters. This may sound tedious at first, but rest assured that you’ve done much of the legwork. After all, you’ve already found love – that’s supposed to be the hardest part.

    How to Get Married Legally in Thailand:

    STEP 1: FULFILL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

    Requirements:

    • Either of them should not be less than 17 years of age or should be in marriageable age in accordance to the law enforced from your home country. The Court may, in case of having appropriate reason, allow them to marry before attaining such age.
    • Either of them should not be an insane person or adjudged incompetent.
    • Both of them should not be in blood relations in the direct ascendant or descendant line, or brother or sister of full or half blood i.e. should no be with in the prohibited degrees of relationship.
    • Both of them should not have the same adoptive parents.
    • Either of them should not have a spouse at the time of marriage. If woman whose husband died or whose marriage has become terminated, the marriage can only take place after expiry of 310 days from such death or termination of marriage, but before such period if:
    • A child has been born during such period;

    • The divorced couple remarry;
    • There is a certificate issued by a qualified doctor who is a lawful physical practitioner in medicine showing that the woman is not pregnant;
    • There is an order of the Court allowing the woman to marry"

    Requirements for Foreigners:

    • A copy of their passport along with arrival card
    • Affidavit regarding the marital status of the person from the respective embassy
    • Translated copy of affidavits to Thai certified by an approved Foreign Ministry Translator"

    In the UK two people of the same sex can be legally married, so the in accordance requirement is met . All the others are equally easily met.

    Although "insane person or adjudged incompetent", may be challenged for some TD poster.

    Changing your gender in your UK passport appears equally easy;

    "In addition to your old passport, you will need to include one of the following as part of your application:

    • a birth or adoption certificate in your acquired gender
    • a Gender Recognition Certificate
    • a letter from your doctor or medical consultant confirming that your change of gender is likely to be permanent, and evidence of your change of name such as a deed poll."

    https://www.gov.uk/changing-passport-information/gender

    The UK Gender Recognition Certificate can be obtained thus;
    "Apply by the standard route
    if all the following are true:

    you’re 18 or over

    • you’ve been diagnosed with gender dysphoria (discomfort with your birth gender) - this is also called gender identity disorder, gender incongruence or transsexualism
    • you’ve lived in your acquired gender for at least 2 years
    • you intend to live in your acquired gender for the rest of your life"

    https://www.gov.uk/apply-gender-recognition-certificate

    One presumes the discomfort of having to have a certain amount in a bank account, may well be sufficient.

    Of course other countries may have different laws

    It appears that the door is open, assuming the Thai language version has been correctly translated.

    Let us know how you get on.

    ok so we have fat ugly women having sex with nice little brown creatures,

    why should we care if those women like to have sex with apes or cute little monkeys,

    it's not illegal, at least not yet, even if it could be regarded as animal cruelty
