    OK, Boomer

    Pretty much sums it up...

    OK, Boomers: Here's what's up

    9 Nov, 2019 10:49am 3 minutes to read

Through it all, you still have sheer audacity ... the temerity, to complain that my generation is too sensitive or too fragile, while you kick up a stink about being called "Boomer"? Oh, puh-lease. Photo / Getty Images

You, Boomers, had a free university education while many of us still start our adult life tens of thousands of dollars in debt. Boomers, you oversaw rampant speculation in the housing market.

You rejected housing intensification plans and saw housing inflation not as a problem, but as an unrivaled opportunity to enrich yourselves without paying tax. With all of that wealth, Boomers, presumably you'd be okay with a few changes to superannuation?

Oh nope ... Boomers, you expect us to cover that as well without significantly changing eligibility conditions. Because hey – you're not the ones paying!

Oh, and here's the real doozy: You, Boomers, cooked our planet. You, the Flower Power generation, the Jimi at Woodstock '69, the all-we-are-saying-is-give-peace-a-chance generation, forgot all of that peace-and-love-and-at-one-with-the-World stuff, and you ignored scientific evidence for decades because it moderately inconvenienced you.

After two World Wars and half a century in which the generations before you sacrificed millions of lives for the sake of their children and their grandchildren and a safer world, yours is the generation that repaid that incredible gift with absolute self-interest. The world faced a potential existential threat, and you didn't give a toss.

And through it all, Boomers, through it all, you still have sheer audacity ... the temerity, to complain that my generation is too sensitive or too fragile, while you kick up a stink about being called "Boomer"? Oh, puh-lease. Thoughts and prayers Boomers. Thoughts and prayers.

Look: I'm only kind of joking. I know I shouldn't be baited but you've caught me at a moment of weakness and I can't resist.

Do I think we should discriminate on the basis of age? No.

Do I think sometimes my Millennial generation and Gen Z can be a bit too sensitive? Yes.

Do I also think it's rich for those of us in public positions, whether we be members of parliament or Saturday morning radio broadcasters, who get annoyed when we are dismissed for our relative youth, to then also use age as an insult? Albeit a gentle insult?

Yes, okay, it's maybe a little rich.

But do I think the term Boomer is offensive? No.

Objectively, the world we've inherited is a hell of a lot more complicated than the one the Boomers grew up in. There are far more important issues facing us all than a debate over whether or not being called a "boomer" is really worth losing sleep.

So, dry your eyes. Drive your 3-Litre SUV to your fifth house or use those untaxed capital gains to supplement your Super and buy yourself a box of tissues.'ll stop calling you a boomer. But maybe... you know... toughen up.

FKn selfish generation of hypocritical snowflakes some of them (including those that post on here, no names though cnuts are too sensitive... )

Psychologists say more and more young people are entitled

Posted Sunday 30 July 2017 16:00 by Greg Evans in news

Research has discovered that large amounts of young people are developing an entitlement complex.

The psychological trend comes from the belief that you are superior to others and are more deserving of certain things.

This form of narcissism has some significant consequences such as disappointment and a tendency to lash out.

Psychology Today reports that some examples of entitlement range from the disregard of rules, freeloading, causing inconveniences and like to assume the role of leader when working in groups.

So called millennials, who were born roughly between 1988 and 1994, tend to have this characteristic as a 2016 study found.

The University of Hampshire found that youngsters who were studied on issues of entitlement scored 25 per cent higher than people aged 40 to 60 and 50 per cent higher than those over that age bracket.

Dr Joshua Grubbs, who conducted the research, which was published in the Psychological Bulletin is quoted by Spring as saying:

At extreme levels, entitlement is a toxic narcissistic trait, repeatedly exposing people to the risk of feeling frustrated, unhappy and disappointed with life.

Often times, life, health, ageing and the social world don’t treat us as well as we’d like.

Confronting these limitations is especially threatening to an entitled person because it violates their worldview of self-superiority.

The study looked at 170 cases and determined that entitlement leads to a cycle of disappointment, anger, negativity and a constant need for that person to tell themselves that they are special.

Professor Julie Exline, who was also involved in the study added that this system only creates more issues and can lead to problems with other people.

The entire mind set pits someone against other people.

When people think that they should have everything they want — often for nothing — it comes at the cost of relationships with others and, ultimately, their own happiness

In order to break from this mentality experts believe that an individuals should learn to become more humble, more grateful and accept their limitations.

Psychology Today also offers some other alternatives to solving the problem.

These including retrospectively reflecting on annoying incidents from someone else's perspective, promote others achievements and stop justifying things to yourself that are wrong.

Well kids nowadays are whiny sniveling social media twats. They are entitled because their "Boomer" parents worked all the time and the nanny raised them. Their retirement plan is "Leg it out until Dad and Mom die" and work as little as possible all the while complaining about every thing..

strange that the drunken old goat dirty dog managed to do it all those years ago with nothing more than dial up, win 95 and a couple of transistors fizzing away in the background.

    well thats progress i suppose.

The "the greatest generation" knew exactly what they been through and worked their arses of to unsure the next generation gained abetter deal. More wealth, political power, knowledge and vision. The "boomers" used that to take the flame forward

The Gen-X dissipated their energy and the tolerance of their parents

I read this week about some primary school head teacher who has banned "Tag" from being played in the school playground. She is insisting only games with "gentle hands" are permitted.

    I don't know if it's a Catholic school.
