Personally, I wouldn't take a job in Thailand if I could get the same money elsewhere (which, obviously, one can...).

Bangkok is a great city.
I couldn't live anywhere else in Thailand as I like to enjoy the luxuries in life - but BKK still has a taste of the old world (though I understand that is diminishing. ie: street food stalls are becoming a thing of the past)
It's a city in the making, but gimme BKK over any big western cities.
It's a vibrant Asian city that never sleeps, and it's almost impossible to be bored.
Yes, there are negatives you need to endure, but it's a ying-yang thing.

If it works for you then that's great, but Korean cities, Japanese cities and perhaps even HK are much nicer places to live the city life, imho. For starters, you get seasons and very few mozzies.

I liked BKK....again. Just finished my 2nd stint there (1 year) and now moved down to Sattahip area to be near the other factory. Lots to do. Of course a lot depends on the company, the position and the perks offered. However I wouldn't do BKK without them paying all my living expenses and have a driver allocated to you. The rest is what you make it. I guess the other would be they pay you a huge salary and you handle it all.

* Rent is high
* 7am to 9am and 4pm to 8pm in the morning is hell for traffic
* BTS is OK at certain times
* Food is open depending on what you want. You can drop 4k baht for a good ol fat ass USDA steak dinner at El Gauchos or go to local side street markets and pick up regular Thai food for 50bht
* SMOG can be bad

Appreciate the fact that this exotic getaway is changing fast and you have a chance to become part of history.

Either it sinks, or it changes so much it will be unrecognisable.

The entire world has changed - BKK, although changing, is still one of the last frontiers.

The 4 years I spent in BKK I had the luxury of going home 3 - 4 times a day to 'refresh'. I suppose that is a large part of the reason I have such fond memories of living there.

Whatever you decide the mere fact you can see more of your family is worth the move.

Of course the commercial package is also important.
