That's quite nice isn't it? I mean it's a real job with money in my direction, not a hand/blow job.
I'm quite excited.
I will probably ask some other related questions on this here thread. Thank you.

^ You missed out the uneven pavements and the awful selection of authentic Ethiopian food available.
I have been told you can get decent Guinness in Bangkok. That for me would be a deal maker.
AID's riddled zombie brain eating whores. Thats normal for me.

Keep going, Dilly...
Let me know when you need help.
Personally, I wouldn't take a job in Thailand if I could get the same money elsewhere (which, obviously, one can...).
Nonetheless, good luck to Slimboyfat, and I hope everything works out well for him.
Bangkok is a great city.
I couldn't live anywhere else in Thailand as I like to enjoy the luxuries in life - but BKK still has a taste of the old world (though I understand that is diminishing. ie: street food stalls are becoming a thing of the past)
It's a city in the making, but gimme BKK over any big western cities.
It's a vibrant Asian city that never sleeps, and it's almost impossible to be bored.
Yes, there are negatives you need to endure, but it's a ying-yang thing.
Sounds romantic from far away, but it's frikkin' COLD in winter. For starters, you get seasons
The older I get, the more I miss the tropics.
^^ they do have heating in Asia nowadays...
Autumn and Spring are lovely in Japan/Korea - that's pretty much half of the year. Summer isn't too hot or humid. Winters are ok at the start (like now), but can get a bit unpleasant during a longer/colder one. But, Mandaloopy is in UB with -40 to -50 winters, so it's survivable.
For me, working in Bangkok can be fine on a good day, but gets very tiring over time; any moving around for business (or any reason) is a pain in the arse; the humidity is really unpleasant out of office, even getting to work at 7am walking from the car park to the office (or going out to get some food for lunch in one of the many great food options); Thai mozzies are sooo horrible; random acts of fuckwitery by either locals or tourists are just higher than anywhere else I've lived - funny at first, irritating over time; Bkk isn't as cheap (comparatively) as it once was; working with Thais all day ever day takes some getting used to, and isn't for everyone...
Cycling should be banned!!!
I liked BKK....again. Just finished my 2nd stint there (1 year) and now moved down to Sattahip area to be near the other factory. Lots to do. Of course a lot depends on the company, the position and the perks offered. However I wouldn't do BKK without them paying all my living expenses and have a driver allocated to you. The rest is what you make it. I guess the other would be they pay you a huge salary and you handle it all.
as Dil added so eloquently
* Rent is high
* 7am to 9am and 4pm to 8pm in the morning is hell for traffic
* BTS is OK at certain times
* Food is open depending on what you want. You can drop 4k baht for a good ol fat ass USDA steak dinner at El Gauchos or go to local side street markets and pick up regular Thai food for 50bht
* SMOG can be bad
Dillinger will be back.....
Spring and Autumn are magnificent - but it feels like they are so short you will miss them if you blink. I prefer Autumn, as spring can quite often be too cold, and the pollen in the air has a lot of people wearing masks and feeling unwell. Summer here in Japan is much hotter than BKK in my opinion. Humidity is through the roof. In Tokyo especially it is unbearable. Air-con units on every roof top pumping out hot air make a 35 degree day feel like 45. Winter seems to last forever. It's getting cold where I am already. Winter can last from mid November until March. February is the coldest. It feels like winter here lasts forever - and it does last for 5 - 6 months in many ways.
I suppose the grass is always greener BB.
I have fond memories of living in BKK and often feel that is where I will spend my twilight days. The weather is a big factor. As long as you have a pool to plunge in and out of all day, I feel the heat is bearable.

I specifically like Thonglor. Lot's of nice restaurants and supermarkets - and only a 40 baht motorsai to Soi Cowboy + easy boat ride to phantip plaza, easy access to BTS.

There you go then. The most important consideration right there, worth putting up with the more negative aspects.Originally Posted by slimboyfat

Appreciate the fact that this exotic getaway is changing fast and you have a chance to become part of history.
Either it sinks, or it changes so much it will be unrecognisable.
The entire world has changed - BKK, although changing, is still one of the last frontiers.
If you're plunging in and out of a pool all day then you are either not working or working from home.
In that case there are many, many places to be better than BKK.
I enjoyed my time there, but that time was up.
Why anyone would drive there I have no idea, unless the workplace was on the outskirts.
Anyway, if it makes spending time with his family easier for the op then obviously it's worth doing.
The 4 years I spent in BKK I had the luxury of going home 3 - 4 times a day to 'refresh'. I suppose that is a large part of the reason I have such fond memories of living there.
Bugger that. BTS and taxis work fine. Why anyone would drive there I have no idea
Yes, agreed.Anyway, if it makes spending time with his family easier for the op then obviously it's worth doing.
Whatever you decide the mere fact you can see more of your family is worth the move.
Of course the commercial package is also important.
Anyway good luck with it mate and it has been long time between beers.
