What I was thinking. Or find somewhere quite close to a tollway if you are driving, for quick getaways and returns at weekends.

Why on earth would anyone quit Singapore to live in Thonburi? You might as well fuck off to Burma as live there.

He wants to live in Bangkok, Thonburi is the boonies.

Rather obviously, it depends where he works. Thonburi would presumably have been good for betty because of this, Prakanong was good for me. Both spots are on the BTS.

Only a fool like buttplug makes sweeping generalisations about which point on the map works best for everyone.

I'll be working in Phaya Thai district. Around 2km walk (according to Google Maps) to the nearest BTS station (Ari).

I meant like Cyrille mentioned, either Phrakanong, the exit near Nana, Silom or Port are the ones I know of

You are not far from Nana then on the Sukhumvit line and seeking assylums recommended place to stay sounds good now.

Although so does Phrakanong and is where I would stay. You can get a decent 2 bedroom 70sq metres within 300 metres to the BTS for about 25k. Sukhumvit Plus condo is alright and I would recommend. Nice pool there too.

Have you found somewhere to stay yet? dd property and craigslist.th are where to look.

^ Not sure about that, Dilly.

PhraKanong is miles and miles away, it'll be a horrible journey. Did Mr Sausage suggest lower Suk? That'll be a problem too because 2kms from a station is a pain in the arse with morning traffic; getting a taxi or motorcyc from Ari station will be busy/difficult in the mornings, and far too humid to walk.

Slimboyfat would be better to be closer to work (not as the crow flies, but in ease of getting to work during rush hours).

That's a funny little No Man's Land around there... I worked with some government offices around there, always a little tricky to get to/from; taxi from BTS... You might be around Dusit, you might be closer to Victory Monument or even towards Chatuchak or Huai Kwang; but most of those areas are closer to BTS/MRT stations (except for maybe Dusit?). You're gonna have to go through pretty bad traffic to get anywhere of note/interest...

Maybe pin your workplace on a map, pin Ari station, go in the middle then look for nice residential places which have motorcycs to easily take you to work or maybe you'll have a car?

Are you sure there's no other MRT or BTS stations close to you because that general area has quite a loy of stations closer than 2kms with the MRT and BTS lines quite close together (excluding Dusit).

    Hmmm, good luck with that...
    Cycling should be banned!!!

Rush hour commuting on the BTS, combined with a 2km jaunt before/after work. Sounds like hell doing that twice a day, to be honest.

I'd probably look for a decent enough place that's 1km from both. Easy 1km to and from work. 1km to the BTS. Pick up a wee scooter if the motosai guys aren't that plentiful.

Had a mate living in Ari around 5+ years ago, was quite an up and coming trendy neighbourhood full of Japanese/Vietnamese restaurants etc and upper middle-class Thais and the kinda establishments they like to go to.

also remember that even on a motorbike the road was as tight as all hell.

Aree (Ari) is perfect for you and where I would live if alone and wish to live in BKK. Two stops down the line right next to Victory Monument is the Saxophone pub serving reasonable beer, ok Thai food and great jazz/blues and would make a great local watering hole for early evening drinks if you fancy getting out of condo but not wishing to hit lower Sukhumvit.

There are any number of tuk-tuks ( not the tourist type for naive tourists ) that service the area which transport the Thai down the sois when they don't wish to walk or take their cars to the supermarkets etc. You could use these to get to work.

No one walks further than 500 metres in this heat in BKK if thy can help it unless they're masochists.

buy yourself a motocy, and everything will be easy

best place in Bangkok? it's a shithole everywhere, just avoid Thonglor, Ekkamai, Rama 1 and Rama 3, Silom for more

OnNut road might be ok for cheap condos and easy access to BTS with your motocy

Sausageman is on da money, Ari would be worth a look and being close to the Saxaphone Pub can only be a bonus.

A truly great venue for punters with a few buks to blow.

Fatty needs to plan this well or this venture will be fooked. Ya gota get the transport dialed in by using motocy taxi to get home at peak hour so that means ya gota get ya gaffer close to work.

If you need to use the BTS at peak times just forget it and stay in Singapore. The bitches who cry the loudest are the dumb fuks who find themselves in this situation.

If ya can zap to and from work using motocy plus walking you may just find you will enjoy Bangkok once you find ya way around.

Living in a fairly local area is a wise choice far away from lower Sukumvit and the nasty sex tourists.

    Nasty coonts.

Avoid peak time BTS then a walk/taxi... If you are happy using motorcyc taxis, and can find a place to live within/about 1km from work that has them or taxis which will be available at the times you need them (also you can easily get to BTS or MRT from you accom - and have an easy way to get there) then that's a great start.

Relying on motocycle taxis in the country with the second highest road deaths in the world never seemed an option to me. YMMV.

Are you people fucking retarded or just blind?

Phyathai district encompassing Saphan Kwai, Aree and Sanam Pao is serviced by tuk-tuks which the local people use as a commuter aid to and from their sois to the supermarkets/shops/markets and skytrain stations. As I said in my earlier post.

These are not the tuk-tuks used by tourists in lower Sukhumvit or in other tourist spots charging stupid money for witless ingenues, they are part of the transport hub and cost a pittance - anyone who has been to the Saphan Kwai Big C mall will see the lines of tuk-tuks queuing up to collect folk with their purchases charging a tariff of, say, 50 baht to Aree etc.

    No need to use motorcycles.

Aree is a fine venue all round.

Noble Reflex, a handy 300 metres from the BTS, has a good selection of rooms available to rent and is a nice modern, well built block that hits the sweet spot in style, value and size limited to 20 floors and 200 units.

Really, SBF need not bother wasting time, I've pretty much found his best option for him and all he needs to do to is to search the Hipflat portal to choose which flat best suits his needs.

I know of a house for rent in the Ramkhamhaeng area close to the airport link to Phaya Thai district. 25 minutes from house to the district.

Listening to Mr Sausage is a surefire way to failure.

I agree that motorcycs are a nightmare, but the OP will need to find somewhere really close to work to avoid some unpleasantness in his commute. The only way is to have a look around the areas himself.

    SBF,

If Phrayathai you have a good choice. Ari would be by far the closest. Expensive but deals to be had if as you do what Betty says and have a look around. Anywhere within say 20 minutes by BTS. But as said mornings and evenings it really is jam packed full. Closest MRT stop to Ari would be Mochit where you could transfer to BTS.

I'll never, ever, ever, ever, ever ride the airport link during the evening rush hour again. Ever.
