    Whiners and whingers - ' . . . back in UK/Aus/US etc... you can ..."

I know this has been done to death but flogging a dead horse (nice usage of two related sayings in one sentence) seems apropos.

I was at the KLCC yesterday renewing my passport at the Aussie High Comm, which is just across the street from it (separate thread on this), and decided to do some grocery shopping at the ISETAN in the complex.

Looking at the non-halal section there was this Brit, in his early 60s I'd guess, who was whining to the cashier that he couldn't use paywave there . . . at the main check-out yes, but the halal section only has one basic card reader.

So, he's going on about how backward etc..., back in UK you can use it anywhere etc..., his Maybank AMEX has paywave etc... The lady behind the counter was constantly apologising, which seemed to give him a boost in his whining. He wasn't being aggro, just a whining pain.

So, I turned to him and said (nicely) that he wasn't in the UK and he might be surprised that all is not as he thinks it it.

So, he started to tell me that he'd worked for Petronas for 18 years, all over the world . . . yadda yadda yadda . . . and that he was retiring and going 'back to UK' where his wife lives.

I have no reason to doubt him and wished him luck living back 'in UK' and he immediately says that he'll move to Italy because of Brexit and that the UK isn't a good place to live.

    Sigh . . .

Anyway, whiners and whingers, I'm sure we've all met them , even have them here

Whingers and whiners are FA compared to a pathological liar. For many a year I've had to drink with one. I say 'had to drink with one' due to lack of farang in the area and I haven't got the heart to tell him he's a twat. It used to get to me in the beginning but now it goes over the top of me head. In fact now days it's funny.

Not whining, my dear soap-dodging friend, rather relating a story . . . remember, I do mention that he was pleasant

I've been out of the UK for decades, I don't even know what paywave is, so I have no terms of reference.

But if you wish you were in the UK, the best thing to do is fuck off back there I reckon.

Pay wave is where you just wave your card over the machine.

My Malaysian debit card works on Paywave in the UK unlike these shitty Thai Bangkok bank visa ones with no name on the front.

There you go PH, you've got a whine out of me

Pay wave is fine until you lose your card and somebody goes on a shopping spree with it.

I don`t mind the hassle of entering a pin number at all.

Cash is still king in Japan despite the mod cons. Lot`s of stores and restaurants dont accept cards.

Re: Whingers, Australia has its fair share these days. There was a time when Aussies were a lot more fun loving and we could genuinely rip on the poms for whinging, but I`m not sure who`s worse these days..

In these parts the whelps who constantly moan about cold winters amuse me, it's not like the bitterly harsh winters were a secret. Moans about the pollution are totally valid though imo

Did he ever ask you about what you think of the local immigration office?

Unless he has another EU citizenship he had better get his skates on if he wishes to move to Italy. I doubt they will be taking any new free movement applications much after the transitional phase ends, if there is one which is increasingly doubtful if BoJo gets his way and goes full-on hard brexshit.

On the plus side, Prag, a lack of Farang in the area can be more a blessing than not.
I trust you're not one of these types who needs to seek out Farang company and hangouts to get on in life.

Try drinking with Thai guys. At least their whinging and lying presents itself with a local humble twist.

Jeff, thank you for your concerns but I don't need to get on in life. Life is good but sometimes one needs the company of ones own kind. Irrespective of his/their faults.

    This.

I've had the opportunity in recent times to work in Awestralia & with Awestralians + the Poms that inevitably migrate there. If I had to pick the most self-entitled, prolific whingers it would be the Aussies. The Poms in comparison were humble and benign.

    My how things have changed.
Some people think it don't, but it be.
