As mentioned in another thread, I had to renew my Aussie passport because it was full and I need a new one for my travels . . .

RM1200 and three weeks . . . really? Roughly 8600 baht . . .

Anyway, my last passport application was sent to Canberra and they rejected the photo, so it too another two weeks . . . sigh.

This time I came armed with two sets of photos. Luckily the passports are now kept in Kuala Lumpur so - they rejected both sets - took a photo themselves.

Now, that is good. And it was foc.

Not only that, but the lady and man (both Malaysian Indians) were extremely helpful, friendly and very pleasant.

We whine a lot about how our embassies or High Comms work but, as a dip kid who spent a lot of my youth in the buildings after school, there is much more to it than cocktail parties and duty-free cars.

So . . . Kudos to the Consular section of the High Comm

Approx Bt.2500 of that is an overseas surcharge.

If the full passport was still valid for atleast 2 years you can get a 34 page replacement passport that costs approx Bt3500 and there is no overseas surcharge.

It strikes me that this is blindingly obvious, so how exactly did you manage to fuck up three times?

Obviously I don't take the photos myself - and the places that do it say they know the requirements

But you never bothered to check them yourself after the first time?

Added: There is an app called "Passport Photo" so you can take your own. I did my last Cambo visa without any paper at all.

My daughter's Aussie passport renewal was turned down the first time at the Aussie Embassy in Bangkok last year.

I'd attached her passport pics with a paperclip to the application form and this had resulted in a minuscule crease in the photos, apparently. I couldn't see it.

Yeah BKK knocked back my renewal due a photo issue as well.

All based on the 'new' facial recognition requirements . . . and here I was thinking facial recognition had always been used . . . yea, biometric stuff

We had a great fixer in one company I worked for in the sandpit. I needed a government ID in a hurry and had a photo with a blue background and they insisted on a white background. The fixer engaged them in Arabic and they produced a pair of scissors, some glue, and a piece of white card. He cut round the head, stuck it on the card and cut it to size. And they took it.

I wished I had a Blue Peter badge to give him.
